Séb, you're very fond of saying that no-one outside of 'Team Max' knows anything about 'sports governance'. Maybe that's true, but some of us know quite a bit about motorsport budgets, so all we can conclude is that -

(a) Disgraced Nazi Pervert Max and his loyal supporters (like you!) are completely clueless as to what can be done for what money in 21st century motor racing, in which case they are incompetent, out of touch and should not be in their jobs (with or without thermometers stuck up their shaven, bleeding arses).

or

(b) they are more interested in playing self-interest politics than they are, as we are supposed to believe, in responsibly 'governing' a sport which pre-dates them and will out-last them.

Either way, and to paraphrase a common expression, it seems to me that in motorsport, "those who can, do... those who can't, govern".

This entire discussion is a load of hot air. A few years ago Mosley was touting GP2 as F1's feeder series to which the F1 teams would be relegated. He even wanted it to be an official FIA series. Now we have osley saying that there should be an F2 series (which is actually the original name of GP2). It's just the same as increasing the team's share of F1's revenues, capping the teams' budgets - Mosley hot air. I even remember a time when he said that radios and telemetry should be banned from cars!!! That was only around a few years ago too. Utter nonsense.

The other nonsense is that the FIA needs the money from the increased superlicense and team fees etc. It made a €360,000 profit in 2007 for heaven's sake!!

Ok, now you're kind of turning around what I said.

My reply was to Ross and kar, who said that we had probably been misunderstanding the press release and that the mentioned EUR 200.000 would not be the whole budget, but just the cost of the naked chassis.
So what I said, and I believe I have not been proven wrong, is that the mentioned EUR 200.000 are what the FIA is expecting as a budget for one car per season. They even use the word budget, so there should not be any doubt about this. Unless, of course, the FIA press guy messed up the press release.

My posting, however, does not mean that I am not aware that this is a (rather unrealistic) hope.

The hundred million wasn't fully paid in 2007 - $50m was paid on the due date of 13 December and the FIA invoiced for the remainder in March this year. It really didn't need it though with the €360k profit in 2007.

The drivers really shouldn't have cowed to the FIA - in 2006 it spent €6,312,107 on travel expenses and entertaining which was more than double its personnel costs of €2,422,091!! Not bad work if you can get it! The entertainment costs for the 06 General Assembley in Barcelona alone were €110,000 - held at one of the city's best hotels no less.

And it wasn't quite F1 which was funding these sprees - registration and entry fees made up the biggest portion of the FIA's income at €17.2m but F1's registration and entry fees only came to €2,652,388 with the super licenses bringing in a further €505,129. At €.4m the regsitration and entry fees for the GT/GT3 championship are coming close to eclipsing those of F1. And the lowest? That world famous 'truck cup' which hauled in a grand total of €18,200 to the federation. Maybe Max is planning to convert that into F2
