You answered yourself. The season is still in progress.

Yes, Kimi had the upper hand last year. He certainly doesn't have it this year. The book is still open. Let's see the standings after Monza.

If you analysed the performances more carefully, you would learn Kimi was stronger more often than not.

Lewi's crash alone turned the situation to look like Massa has done a better job... dont be so naive.

They are thinking nothing. As my good friend Marcus Gronholm once said, the disproportionate success of Finnish drivers in motorsport can be explained with the universal characteristics of Finns: empty head, heavy foot.

I watched an inside gp (not a finnish program) program today with a side eye and they explained with brain electricity maps or something that race drivers have empty heads and make reactions effortlessly. The emptiness of finnish drivers' head wasnt taken in the subject however

Wow. That´s quite bold statement, especially when those who actually drive those cars seem to disagree with you.

That bullshit statement was developed in your brain not in mine. Don't try to put it into my mouth.

There is no way for KR to know that FM is favoured by the use of Bridgestone tyres, because he has no benchmark: He doesn't know how FM would do on Michelins. Maybe FM would be even faster on Michelins?

And btw, so far only KR made the claims about FM being favoured by Bridgestone tyres. I'll accept it as being the truth when FM confirms it.

Until then it remains an excuse.

Well, unlike Räikkönen, Massa is driver who is full of excuses, so don´t expect him to tell anywhere in near future that he has had somekind of advantage over Kimi for last 1 and half season but still can´t beat him. After he lost fair and square in France last year, he came up with something like: "Kimi was lucky that I had traffic, he was also lucky that he passed Lewis at the start..."

Had Massa said something like that what Kimi said about tyres, you might think it was an excuse. But Kimi usually tells it like it is. When he says that he propably had tyres more to his liking than JPM and that Massa has that advantage now, you should believe him. Or is he really the kind of guy who makes excuses in your eyes?

How would he know then if tyres suit for Massa better than they do for him? Erm, are you for real? These guys have each others telemetry to look at, plus they are professional racing drivers for god sake, they do know what is happening in their team, what are the strengths and weaknesses of their team mate.

This thread is weird. Do some of you really believe that when a driver is beaten by his team mate this shows that the car does not suit him? By this logic, Nelson Piquet Jr. may be the greatest of all time but f1 does not suit him. :drunk:

That was a great reply, congrats. You seem to be very sharp boy. Well thought out, yeah, by this logic Piquet jr is somehow best of all times, good thinking, keep it up.

They're not mutually exclusive.

Kimi is stating that some cars fit some drivers better. This explains some results.

RSNS is stating that there are limits to this logic, otherwise you could pretty much argue that whenever someone loses, it's always because of "the car not fitting". Actually the whole point in F1 is that whoever can maximize their equipment better, wins. Results are results independent of explanations.

They're both right.

remmber the f1 drivers that goto dtm, and there expected to own, wipe the floor, in the end they achive not much... handful of race wins.. same can happen in sportscars too. sometimes it clicks, other times it doesnt.

For sure the car is suiting alonso better because is driving it faster. You can only take it as far as how well the car suits you ;)

ps. kimi will drive almost anything fast, that is, he can adapt to almost anything

RSNS said this is a weird thread. Given that this thread is nothing but Kimi´s interview and our comments on that, I reckon he thought Kimi´s opinion was ridiculous. Oh well, maybe I was mistaken and he meant something else?

Interesting comments about the Michelin tyres again. That's another driver who says that they were easier to drive on that the Bridgestones. I still believe that the Michelins allowed for such an aggressive driving style it really did suit Kimi, Alonso and Co on the Michelin. After the transition to Bridgestone tyres they haven't quite been the same drivers, maybe that will change with slick tyres in 2009.

Whilst these Bridgestones offer less grip than the 2006 Bridgestone tyres, I would still imagine that these driver comments are taking this factor into account (plus they have the 2005 Michelins as a comparison reference point). Give them a choice between the 2006 Michelins and the 2006 Bridgestones and I think I know which of them they would choose. You have to change your driving style to suit the Bridgestones, while with the Michelins you can be as aggressive as you like and the tyres will take it.

Kimi is not MS. He's a league behind.

But it's not a stretch to claim the above. One and a half to two years in the same car is the minimum to be able to evaluate two drivers.

Hm, I don't agree. I think JPM in his prime, when everything suited him, was a more complete driver than Massa is today.

However, never saw much of this after he left Williams. Also, he seemed almost unable to sustain this over a whole season, 2003 was probably the best we saw of him.

But RSNS had a good point. He's not saying that Piquet Jr is the best.
These tyres and cars are what F1 is now, and the one who makes the best use of them is the best F1 driver currently. F1 isn't about who is the best race car driver overall. (Schumi wasn't that good in sport cars, was he?)

Tyres don't suit me = I can't adapt to driving with them = I'm not the fastest F1 driver with these tyres.

I agree with that, Kimi is current WDC and that´s why has done best job with these tyres and with his car, that doesn´t change the fact that these tyres doesn´t suit him as well as Bridgestones did.

I've been saying a number of times in other threads this year, that Kimi still isn't all there with bridgestones, this isn't the same Kimi who was on michelins, he was more consistent in qualifying on michelins then bridgestones.

It'l be cool if slick tyres is the thing that changes it for him, this doesn't mean he's not fast on certain tracks this year and last year because he was and is now, but there are mild subpar performances inbetween great ones, and they didn't happen as much as when he was on michelins. I think Alonso has suffered a bit as well, I think the 2009 season with slick tyres could make Kimi better and stay in f1 longer, he can't keep going on like he has this season and last, he needs to win more and enjoy driving the cars.
