Can someone tell me where and when this picture was taken? I found it in a Dutch magazine but it didn't have a caption nor clarification. It looks like Reims to me. Clark wears some kind of a helicopter pilot helmet, Jim Endruweit is also in the picture. Would love to see the film!

wow! What an interesting photo! Certainly Jim Endurweit at the rear of the car. Very small camera too. Wonder if it was a stills camera as opposed to a movie?

Is it really Jim Clark?

I would have thought that's at Silverstone, or even Aintree, but I'm not sufficiently familiar with trackside stuff in those places to be sure at all.

Are your eyes going, Ray?? lol. Looks a foreign place to me, the trackside ads look German (maybe).

The advertisement to the right appears to say moteurs which indicates to me that this is in France.

The stand doesn't look right for Rouen , I suppose it could be Le Mans Bugatti though I think Carlos is right and it is Reims

Huh! I didn't look at the signs...

Obviously in France, again I'm not sufficiently familiar with grandstands to be able to guess. Those roof supports, however, don't look like what I remember of the Le Mans stands.

It must be an early photo, see the two-lens goggles. Also the wind screen is too high for the later cars. He didn't race a Lotus at Le Mans in those days. My guess would be Pau in '62. The car look to have the slightly more bulky bodywork of the 24.

To pick up on Ray's comment..

Is that definitely Jim Clark?..he looks a lil uncomfortable in the car, why the odd helmet and frankly, he looks a lil too "pretty' in a film/televison way..

Possibly even earlier, Roger? A while ago, Dennis Hockenbury posted this beautiful Jesse Alexander picture from Spa 1962.

Note the different goggles. I've also found a picture from Monaco 1962, where the goggles match the Alexander picture and the overalls match Carlos' picture.

The helmet is a special one with the camera mounted on it...

I also think it is a Lotus 24. The mirrors are of the type used on the 21 and 24, but there seems to be the higher engine cover of the 24 visible just behind Clarks head. So, could it be Rouen '62 and Clark did some laps in a camera equiped 24 before racing the 25?

It is Pau indeed. I checked the racingline/racingcircuits website for pictures of Pau ( check here and go to Pau, present circuit, avenue Gaston Lacoste location # 28) and found one where you can see the roof supports. They are identical. Must be 1962 then.

Maybe you can see the film...if I am right. But first, who are these people, and when and where was this photo taken?

It's definitely Pau. My backside recognises those bloody hard concrete steps which pass as seats.

The lettering on the helmet suggests a french TV company: Canal something, can't make it out.

I have been reliably informed that it is gentleman called William Campbell in The Young Racers 1963. If that is wrong don't blame me..... but if it is right I shall take all the credit [for knowing people who know things]

Mr. Measures, I presume. Gerry identified the folks in this photo for Tom Johnston and me a while back. I just thought it would be fun to see if anyone else could identify them. I think Loti came closest. Here is a front view of Marie Versini, this time with Jim Clark, Monaco, 1962:

So could Pedro 917's photo from the Dutch magazine have something to do with the filming of "The Young Racers", which was filmed in 1962 and released in 1963?

I watched "The Young Racers" tonight. Lots of good 1962 footage...Monaco, Spa, Rouen, Reims, Aintree. But I think every track looks amazingly like Brands Hatch in the staged sequences. And some Formula Junior footage in there too, including a few shots from Laguna Seca and Riverside! And squealing tires (tyres).

It says " Journal Télévisé" which means "TV news" .....the movie was probably shot for the then state-controlled "ORTF" for the 8 o'clock news .....

Can't seem to figure out how to "quote" Bruno in post 28, but please refer to post 23 for identities of actors, etc, from the movie "The Young Racers"...though having watched the movie, I'm not sure about the ladies in the photos. Marie Versini was Campbell's wife in the movie and I don't think she looks like the lady in the photos. And Luana Anders was blonde.

You're quite right Vince. I was mislead by what has turned out to be incorrect info in Corman's autobigraphy.

The girl with Clark is Beatrice Altariba, not Marie Versini.
The group photo is L to R Altariba, Corman, Campbell, Coppola and Versini.
