MOTOR RACING CIRCUITS ON GOOGLE STREET VIEW

I've just had a look at Bathurst via Google Street View and can recommend to TNF addicts. For those that haven't been to the circuit, this gives a better perspective of the rise and fall of the terrain, something that TV loses to a degree.

Maybe others can recommend circuits that are interesting via this media.

A lot of Australia's urban areas are covered by Street View through Google Map. You can tour Bathurst, also Albert Park circuit, parts of Adelaide Parks and Adelaide F1 GP (except the pit and paddock loop), some of the Surfers Indycar circuit, to name current tracks.

Historic Aussie tracks run around public roads are also surveyable from the comfort of your office chair (These are the ones I've checked out so far) :

Albany WA (both circuits, also the motorcycle circuit)
Applecross WA
Albury-Wirlinga NSW (only parts, its been redeveloped)
Collie WA
Geraldton (WA)
Bunbury (including the two Carey Park circuits)
Toodyay WA
Gnoo Blas (all)
Middle Ridge QLD (Toowomba)
Mt Druitt NSW (only the remnants of the main straight)
Wood Point QLD
Narrogin WA (including Grand Prix circuit)
Toodyay WA
Victor Harbor SA

There are others I haven't looked at yet - eg Longford

Example; A view from the former grid on the Albany Around the Houses circuit of 1936-1940, looking in the direction of racing. The structure on the right was the "control tower", and the start line ran across the road from it to the left kerb.

Bits of Longford can be "driven" around. This is Longford Corner with the pub on the right, cars turning right at this point.

Can't resist... the actual spot where Herr Schumacher nicked the 1994 championship.

Hell, I dont recognise that road and I live 6 km away! And have raced on that track.
I have found my home on Google maps. I have only been playing with Google earth since this week prompted by this forum, and Terry Walker's speedway pictures.
At least I recognise the Longford pub, the scenery has not changed as much!

Ah! I think I've found the answer. If you have raced there, perhaps this is what you're more accustomed to seeing!

Nah, it is not a concrete tunnel, and there has been so much development there in recent times the buildings have changed. I actually drove through there recently but am watching traffic and not the surrounds. I normally bypass the city and that is the wrong corner of town for nightlife and entertainments.

And I did race there in 94 and then stayed home and watched it on TV on Sunday.

I have just worked it out, the track goes from left of picture, left into the camera. The picture looks south and the track goes from east to north. Clear as mud!

If this works we will have a lot to share from the former Augusta International Raceway. Here is Dave MacDonald Drive entrance. To the far left behind trees is Motorsports Memorial Plaza where the monument sits. Can't wait to locate "cemetery turn" and other sections of the former facility for those interested.
