Add this to not having a poo for a few days, and having a a massive feed. That could see a person's weight spike up three or four kilograms I reckon.

You can't eat a massive meal if you've not had a crap for days, or rather you can if you're in easy reach of a toilet. I suspect had Schumacher tried that along with litres of liquid he'd be in obvious agony while on the scales, and likely feeling off-par for the entire weekend. Wouldn't it be simpler, less painful, hazardous and embarrassing for him to cheat?

I think you should read this...

I've Seen that and it's very interesting. For me, I drink salt replacement drinks during practice/games and water before/after.

I think it is possible. Being full to the brim with poo doesn't mean you lose your appetite. Schumacher could have strutted in, hit the scales, then let the Interlagos porcelin have it. Not beyond reason...

indeed... he cud have been filled with poo, solid food n water  ... combined those can be like 4 kg..... add that to jogging off some weight, weight shed in cockpit during race weekend....n the diff. in weight is explainable.

It makes me laugh to think of Schumie at the first weigh-in crossing his legs and letting out little farts proclaiming the imminent arrival of a turtle head.

Could have happened. His mind management is second to none, just think what power of bowel control he has.

Well you can have all your millions of $ and your WDC's and race records etc. You can keep the house by the lake, the wonderful family, the car collection, the fans and the fame. No, what I want is some of that there bowel control.

Tell us the secret, Schu!

Dumping a kilo of poo in an Interlagos toilet? He'd have spent most of the race trying to flush it (and no I don't believe he's the kind of man to just walk away from a challenge like that). I still don't see why mammoth poo stories are preferable to the simpler alternative: he saw an opportunity for unfair advantage and took it. That's far easier (and more comfortable) than turning your body into a temporary (smelly) waste silo.

Schu probably has a helper who can do the Interlagos flushing for him. How about that Rosario? The fat bloke with a goatee. He looks like he could have learned to be an efficient flusher.

Come to think of it, I suppose he could have boxed it up and pretended it was for the garden. Can anyone remember Weber carrying a large case that weekend?

I know that Kimi will be sympathetic to Schu's toilet needs. He needs to be otherwise they'll clash at the cubicle door.

One thing that I love about MS and find others loathing it, is that if there is an advantage to be had (however minute), MS will find it and exploit it. This is a sign of a champion in my books.

You have to work on your self-discipline. Which actually this board is a good playground for.

Bingo!

Rule books are there to set fences. Given the very flexibles rules in F1, it's no wonder that some work these fences to their advantage, to give them some more room. When someone gets upset about it, they in fact should slap their hand on their forehead and say to themselves, why haven't I thought of that before. Be that a competitor, or the rule creating body.

In a sense it's the same line of thinking with the development race during a season. Each team tries to find some advantage from the car, before others do it. Even if it's an advantage for just one race, it's worth to them. And the best win, because they optimize the entire package. Call that cheating whoever wants to, for me it's called competition. Only the naive think the real race happens behind the wheel only. It never has been this way since the first guys started racing each other in cars.

Maybe someone comes out and wants to tell us, Schumi's fitness program was cheating too. After all he was the one who started that fitness trend amongst F1 driver. Funny enough, fitness program are there to optimize an athletes performance. And yes any fitness program involves weight control. I'm sure there are some on this BB wanting to suggest to the FiA, drivers need to stop their fitness programes, because it's cheating. Please do it, the rest of us want to have a good laugh.

hey guys, I just joined a fitness club where they have a deal where for every pound I lose in the first week, I get a month of free membership. I'm going out to lunch for Pho (Vietnamese noodle soup) where I'll drink about 750 ML of salty broth and drink a lot of water. Later I'll go to the gym to get weighed in.

Thanks, Schumi, for the inspiration!

Don't forget to weigh OUT after having a Kimi-dump and then exercising to dehydration. (Lose the sweat-soaked clothes too.)

Even so, I reckon you'll struggle to get close to Schumacher's 11 months-worth of free membership!

Please report back and let us know how you got on.

Ok so today I had Pho, Vietnamese noodle soup, for lunch. I had a lot of hoisin sauce and drank the entire bowl of salty broth. I went shopping, then when I got home drank about a half a gallon of water.

Went to gym and weighed in at 220 on the nose.

I had to pee about three times during my 1.5 hour workout (I chatted up one of the employees a lot) and was already down two pounds!

I should have no problem dropping three more pounds in six days. If anything I'll have to keep the weight off!

Come on now, you weren't trying hard enough! Schumacher managed to very briefly bulk up by 5kg - that's eleven pounds.
And, how can I put this, he was (especially then) somewhat 'lighter built' than your own good self! :p Where would he have put all that water?

I'm sure this experience has demonstrated to you just EXACTLY how easy it would have been for the great man to achieve his weight-change feat without accidentally having any bits of tungsten in his boots ...

OLB's not really following the route suggested for Schumacher: noodle broth isn't dense enough. I'd assumed something more along the lines of a butt plug, 3 days of 1kg steaks, then half a gallon of water immediately before the weigh-in. If it had worked he'd easily have got a year's free membership. However I wouldn't want to be tying my own shoelaces by the third day for fear of taking someone's eye out.

It was one of the dumbest rules ever: even I realised that adding the car and driver and weighing twice a year meant it was exploitable by somebody doing what Schuey did. In fact, what was extrodinairy was that nobody else thought to do it. When you consider engineers of racing cars have been obsessed with weight since racing cars were invented I couldn't believe they didn't practically strap their drivers down and force feed them: even if they shed the weight over a month they'd still have another 6 races with a half second advantage but apparently only Benetton thought of it. Perhaps F1 people aren't that bright after all? I mean NOBODY thought about it in the ENTIRE TEAM at ANY of the teams???? Jesus.

Yeah somewhere I read that in the sixties, Chapman went so far as to scold some mechanics for using washers, those little locknut types, as they added extra weight....and speaking of dumb, then he would wonder why stuff kept coming loose, failing or falling off his cars

I'm down three and a half pounds. I'm now cutting out sodium and continuing to eat less and work out a lot.

The reduction of sodium is a luxury not afforded to athletes (other than body builders) but it does reduce the retention of water.

To phrase it cautiously: the numbers seem to indicate that you may have slightly more margin for weight loss than Schumacher?

Haha! I copped to the 220 in an earlier post, I guess the height sealed the deal.

Yeah, of course I have "slightly" more margin! As I mentioned to a friend, out of the 5 lbs I'm losing, maybe 1-3 are "legitimate."

Whoa. So about 16 hours ago I was 4 lbs down for the week. I went to the gym this am on no breakfast and no water and weighed in at 211. So I literally lost 5 lbs overnight by basically not eating any carbs or salt and minimizing my fluid intake. I think that's a testament to how much water I drink every day and how much I sweat overnight.
