I have received the following message from Pete's girl friend Emma...
"Thought you'd want to know, Pete has passed away. Happened suddenly and as you can imagine we are all in a state of shock.
His funeral is on Friday 24th, 2pm at York crematorium.
Perhaps you could pass this message on to the people on TNF for me."
This is so sad. Pete was only about 40, I believe. One of TNF's finest contributors.
My condolences to all of his family and friends.

Unbelievable, so very sad, I never met Pete, but he sent me information on books on many occassions and was incredibly knowledgeable on so many subjects, not only motorpsport. Condolences to his family.

I had the same sinking feeling when I saw the thread title.
I never met Pete other than on this forum. He was a great contributor and one who I respected. He will, as so many have already said, be sorely missed.

This is terrible news. His contributions here have been valued by us all, of that I'm certain.
I've also regularly read his excellent reviews on amazon and elsewhere and to say that he will be missed is an understatement.
As Sterling has already said, live each minute of every day to the full...

Again - I never met him in "real life", but he was a TNF contributor of the highest class, whose eclectic and wide-ranging knowledge and good humour will be sadly missed around this place.

Very sad news indeed. I only met Pete (briefly) once, at the Aintree revival but have read, and learned from, his multitude of exceptionally erudite postings on TNF.
A quick "Google" search reveals thousands of references to Pete and his vast range of interests and enthusiasms (mostly way above my head, I have to confess) and shows the affection and respect in which he was held by his peers.
His humour comes across in virtually every post that he made, and I particularly liked his occupation, as listed on flickr : tea-drinker, deep thinker and professional pessimist, now being a little ray of sunshine in the digital TV industry

I'm very sad to hear this news. I read many of Pete's book reviews on Amazon and when I joined this forum I was pleased to see his posts here.

Awful, just awful news. I have met Pete and Emma in real life, as well as shared our enthusiasm for motor racing on this forum, and on ras f1. My thoughts are with Emma and everybody else who has suffered this untimely loss.

Pete Fenelon was a true gentleman.
He was out there on the Net since the beginning, even before TNF existed...

Never had personal contact, but he was a chap that was always willing to help with information...not on request, but on his own initiative. A true enthusiast. My sincerest condolences to his family.

I did have contact with Pete, in "real life", about 4 or 5 years ago. He was so friendly, enthusiastic, clearly intelligent, but had that skill of being intelligent but able to express himself in easy to understand terms for dunces like me.

I always thought that a Commer TS3 had a magical sound but Pete convinced me of the pure music of the Napier Deltec.

A sign of the times I suppose, that we're saddened by the loss of a man we only knew through the internet, but we'll all miss him none the less for that. At least all his reviews will remain to enlighten us, I very rarely disagreed with Pete about a book.

I am speechless and in a state of complete shock. Pete was and *will always be* an inspiration for me. I never got to know him in person, but every post I exchanged with him was special, I learnt a lot. He had all the time and answers to my questions. A terrific poster, a great sense of humor, very original, very knowledgeable, someone whom I always looked forward to reading, meeting.
