How did you buy it? It hasn't been released yet... Am I the only one who thinks this is just a hidden advertisement?

I found the clip on you tube, I am waiting for my DVD.. I think they are being manufactured, or yet to come back... I pre-ordered mine.

Well it does seem to be a Barry Hinchcliffe (maker of "From Harrogate...") company and the prices for the "BP Heritage" (old Castrol) films are significantly lower than the major retailer long dominant in the field.
All we need now is the Shell Heritage collection to deliver on its aspiration to offer "Coupe des Alpes".

Coupe Des Alpes, I haven't seen that title is it good? Is it on you tube?

I have hinted to the missus to get me the BP Castrol Classic boxset as a stocking filler!

Does anyone know where to get the video called "Lap of the Gods" which covers the 1965 or 1966 Acropolis Rally. I saw the video about twenty years ago under the Duke label but the present company knows nothing of it.
It's a classic for historic rally fans.

I wish I knew too (it was 1966 - Soderstrom or Clark with Fiam air horns pushing past the bus on a road little wider than the bus....although I don't recall any coverage of Paddy Hopkirk beating up Henry Taylor with Stuart Turner watching, as we never got to hear of such things then...).
As you will know, it did the rounds of motor clubs etc. in period along with the other Castrol films included in the DVD "boxed set" referred to earlier. Also missing from the boxed set but now available on DVD is the 1971 Circuit of Ireland film.

I'm with you on this, too. I, too, got a completely unsolicited PM from someone I have never come across before - has it been circulated to everyone on TNF? I note that the poster is plugging it on other forums.

I've found a reference to the film in the November 25, 1966 edition of Autosport. Described as "Highlight of the current relaeases of Castrol Films .... premiere at a garden party given by Castrol on 17 Nov. in the Piccadilly Hotel"

Also on the same page: "Last minute entry for the Players No 6 TV Hill-Climb at Harewood is Jim Clark in a Lotus Cortina .... the event will be televised by ABC TV and shown on their World of Sport programme". There must be a wealth of footage in that archive wherever it is now.

OK Apologies..

Yes I am plugging the site a little, however, I am working on an exciting project to bring some all time classic motorsport archive history to DVD.. As you can imagine, to make this viable we need to draw attention to the site.. You will see from the initial titles the pricing is much lower than that of our competitors..

Anyway, any recommendations for films that you are interested in, please let me know, in the meantime, watch this space as every month we will be putting together some great titles..

Alan, Bob, RS2000 drop me a pvt email and I will send you a free copy of the BP boxset :D

If you're looking for something with thrills and spills, we have just bought out Murray's Motorsport Madness.. I have seen lots of crashes videos, but this one has to rank as one of the best.. there are so many top incidents...

BHP, Barry Hinchcliffe Productions maybe? They made some cracking motorsort films back in the day (IIRC :smoking: )

Hi Sterling,

Thanks for the praise!!

We are working hard to get some of these magic moments on to DVD / Boxsets..

I can also advise that at the end of the month we will be bring out a 50 Years of British Touring Car DVD with Hayfisher... I think everyone will want to see a bit of Cleland & Sober in 1992 at Silverstone

We used to have club nights watching these films, great days! "I Can See For Miles" rings a bell and someone (Bob Bean?) parking his RS in a lake on a stage. The touring cars are interesting, my period of choice would be the '60s rather than the (relatively) later years.

I got the email too...

Driverdig, don't forget to approach John Tully at Brunswick films, who last year told me he was trying to get their old rally films re released. It still doesn't seem to have happened. As I wrote last year, I have 'Road Time', their film of the 1973 Monte on VHS and it would be worth wider redistribution. Originally made for Lancia and extremely evocative of the era. In fact up to 'From Harrogate' standards!

https://www.brunswickfilms.com/

Or maybe you class them as competitors. Time to bang a few heads together.....

And while I'm on, is the release of 'From Harrogate' really remastered?. Was most disappointed with the BHP DVD I got a couple of years ago which seemed to be the VHS tape, even to the wow on parts of the sound track and respliced bits...!

Hi BDM977B,

With Harrogate, we never permitted it to be released on DVD, the distributor unfortunately, went ahead without our consent. However, we have now gone back to the original film and transferred to HD, to then produce the DVD. There is no comparison between the DVD that first came out, to the new one we have now made. We have also restored the sound. Obviously with any old film you will still see the odd glitch, but I can assure you you will enjoy the difference.. We have also digitally restored Rallying of the 70's & 80's and Greatest Years of rallying.. What seems to have happened before, is due to massive VHS sales, the DVD's have just been "crashed" to DVD, with no real post production values - something that goes against the ethics of BHP..

I will follow up your lead, and if anyone else is keen to make suggestions of films they would like to see on DVD then let me know. What I am going to try and do is make boxsets, bringing around 6 - 10 films per collection and will bring them out for under £20 but hopefully a lot lower (like we have done with the Castrol Classic Boxset)..

Kind regards

Hi, is there any footage of Ken Miles in the MG EX179 streamliner at Bonneville in 1956? Would love to see that.

Thanks for your reply Driverdig. I've asked for it as a Christmas prezzie, though it seems to be out of stock at the moment.
Incidentally, was the original done on 16 or 35mm? I'm sure I remember cameramen staggering around the forests in those days with kit that looked a lot bigger than Arris! Or maybe they weren't from Barry Hinchcliffe.
