Have read brief mentions of sport car races in the fifties on a street circuit in Leipzig, but web searches turn up little more than what I've read - that there were races there and known drivers of the time competed. Can anyone shed some light on this? What years? Circuit map?

Thanks. That also pointed out the races were held between 1950 and 1956.

Here's a small bit from 8w

Stuck's biggest success came in the inaugural Leipzig Straßenrennen, a street race through the Leipzig Stadtpark, the old fox winning the 20-lap race that was probably not a part of the East German championship at the time. Unfortunately, details on the entry list, starting grid and result of the race are missing.

And a couple of photo's from the track in this story

If you poke around in all the stories here , you find bit's of information on the track

You might find some results by googling on 'Leipzig Stadtparkrennen'.

The Leipzig racetrack was a typical East-German one, constructed out of ordinary streets and park roads. Most of these streets and roads still exist, but bear no scars of those races. As I said: they're just streets: the Wundtstraße, the Karl-Tauchnitzstraße, and the small roads through the Clara Zetkin park. You can easily plot the track by using Google Earth.

Actually, I've done quite a few Leipzig laps myself on a bicycle in the past years.

There are many photos of the races in Leipzig, but most of them are published and discussed on close forums. However, if you're seriously interested in GDR racing history (which is truly fascinating!), and if you can read German, I can recommend this book:

Or you could try and contact user 'Uechtel' on this forum. Don't know if he's still around and able to answer you, though.

Wow, there used to be a race track - I didn't know. I live right there not even 300 metres away ...
but I just moved there not too long ago.

Ah, do I sense a candidate for a lap in pictures around the 'track'? ;)

Maybe I'll do it ...

By the way I'm still searching for the entire F. Vauxhall race results (1990) - race + qualifying.
And Brazilian FF1600 race results (1989) and a points table.;)

So let's see..

I have ordered the book since I still have an interest in racing in the DDR and thought the book looked interesting.

There were also races at this circuit in 1957 and 1958.
