Is the Chris Lawrence who drove the F1 Cooper-Ferrari V12 in 1966 the same as the Lawrencetune Lawrence? The Lawrence of Morgan SLR fame?
The Chris Lawrence who raced in California Historic events in the '80s?

I do believe that the LawrenceTune Lawrence is the same person who raced in historic events in the eighties-in a 2.6 Ford powered AC Aceca that whipped myself and four other drivers in Lotus 26Rs!!

Yes, that's the same person. He is still attending historic events. I met him at the Festival of Speed at Goodwood this year. Regards Alfred

A very few years ago, when I was handicapping at Bentley DC Silverstone, someone (Bill Wykeham IIRC) had entered a Lawrencetine Morgan +4. I found him and his car before practice, and ventured to ask if it was a genuine Lawrencetune car - "Yes, and that (waving at a man fiddling with the Weber carbs) is Mr. Lawrence tuning it!"

He was always regarded as a very talented engineer. ISTR he came up with a variation of a cross-pushrod design for the venerable TR engine in '62-ish, shown in The Autocar IIRC. Also consider the twinny Mini- it worked, especially with synchronised gear linkages where a squeeze-trigger on the lever moved both across the gate, so he only moved the lever forwards and aft for any change, as demonstarted to me at the FoS.

He raced a Morgan SLR at the Revival a few years ago, but is quite frail now. He drove his twin-Mini-engined Deep Sanderson at the Festival this year, and he also has written his autobiography released this year, entitled 'Morgan Maverick'.

In recent years he has been a chassis design consultant for Morgan Cars.

Morgan Maverick is well worth reading as Chris Lawrence has had an extremely broad and varied career, not just to do with cars - his naval career and subsequent yachting escapades play a major part in the story. He does not seek to excuse his lack of commercial acumen and he is quite open in his views on some of the people he has encountered along the way. The book would probably have benefited from some tighter sub-editing as it has lots of typos etc, but in some ways it is all the more attractive for it faults.

"Morgan Maverick" does not appear to be available in n.america--can anyone suggest a source?

Yeah, I thought it looked a bit steep. They obviously haven't taken into account that the pound is now only worth $1.47 rather than the two bucks of six months ago ....

As its not entirely off topic does the book tell who were drivers for Lawrencetune during the 60's/70.s, or does anyone know who drove for him.? In perticular the Morgans used in the sports/marque cars races.

I just ordered the book from amazon uk and with shipping it came to 36 quid! much cheaper than buying in n.america.

well i have a singed copy of this book by chris lawrence him self i have read this and it good i also spook to chris for sum time at bradfor yes eh,s fral now but what a guy he,s got all marbels

I too met Chris, at Goodwood Revival and received his signed auto-biography, which is an absorbing read.

Gordy- Gordon Spice co drove at Le Mans with Chris in the 60's, and Bob Curl produced styling & body moulds of the Monica Sports Car, which was not mentioned in the book strangely.

I would like to contact Chris as I have a number of questions to ask him. Does any one have a contact for him?

His wife took my bus card when I bought his book but I forgot to get his e/mail address.
