Well, that last sentence is a bit off, methinks! In truth, Foitek's financing was a bit patchy, and father Karl was helping out but pulled the plug before Indy - this from memory. When I have a little time, I will post his F3 results.

As I recall it was his wife who wasn't fond of those speeds. Foitek had two choices, race Indy or stay married. He picked option #2.

I read somewhere - I think it was in an Economaki column - that the first Foyt to get to the States was originally a Foitek...any genealogists able to confirm wherher this is true or just folk etymology?

According to 1992 AJ press kit, apart from the similarity of their names, both guys were able to trace their ancestery to Czechoslovakia, so they always joked about being distant relatives. Thats it, i guess.

It's a funny thing

I am looking for photos of Gregor Foitek. I have never seen a photo of Gregor from his two CART-races 1992: Surfers Paradise and Long Beach. Perhaps has anyone got some photos?
I have also seen only very few (good) photos from him driving formula one, as he frequently failed to qualify. Perhaps you can help?
And moreover from his one-off at the Le Mans 24 hrs 1991, where he drove the Kremer-Porsche 962 CK6 (Nr 46).

OMG! What a difference! Reto (who might be Gregor's younger brother) resembles the young Gregor Foitek much more than the former Grand Prix driver himself! I think Gregor's hair turned grey after he retired (it happens quite often with racing drivers when they are still in their early thirties - just think about Philippe Alliot) and now he had his hair dyed in brown. Combine this with a pair of glasses and he is now virtually unrecognizable!

Yes he was. I think he appeared with completely white hair around the middle of the 90s, after he had retired from Grand Prix racing for the second and final time. His hair was definately white when he was racing in the GT series afterwards.
