Ridiculous! So the same mob that took the old 9 6 4 3 2 1 points system which gave 2 wins the value of 3 second places and gave us 10 8 6 4 3 2 1 making it harder for a winner to overcome a DNF. Now they have gone the other way and into oblivion. The fans are wondering is the championship worth following.

Egg will be on Bernie and Max even more when some of the implications become apparent. Like a common enough scenario - championship rivals battling for 2nd (or 3rd, 4th whatever). There's little incentive to really fight for the place. There will be little interest in anything other than 1st place for the drivers and no interest in F1 for the public. Max must go.

I love the new scoring system!!!!

I am sick to death of drivers settling for podium positions half way into the race and the race becoming processional, drivers likes kubica just driving around like its a f**kin test session all for the sake of consistency, no hunger, no passion for the win..I say enough!!!!

I want to see battles and scraps for the lead,I want winners to win and losers to lose, thats how f1 should be,2nd place is nothing and winning is everything. I don't care if the championship ends early as it would have been won by the driver who won instead of collecting points all season and turning in the odd lucked in win.

And please don't give me that response of "what if there is one car that is dominant", that era is over when brawn, stepney, todt and MS went their seperate ways...this season f1 will be even and fun to watch overtaking at the front this time, not some bloody force india's punting each other in some lame attempt at a pass.

by the same token I can find you tons of quotes from recent years where drivers have mentioned that it was not worth risking it and that it was safer to bring the car home in one piece.. thinking about the WDC... (Kimi/Alonso come to mind.)..

There is too much dead wood in F1. About time for a cull to get some decent talent into the series.

Hamilton has come in and shown that most are a bunch of cruise and collect gravy train losers.

 FFS

That`s just crazy talk. I thought we cleared that one, but it seems that some don`t really now what`s going on lately as in last years. It`s the nature of the rules that "prefer" that kind of approach. First and foremost the multiple race engine, gearboxes. In a F1 season you can`t go and look at every race as a single isolated event, the rules prevent that, sorry. It`s not that hard to get, is it? Secondly the points system, which could have been easily fixed (I proposed a nice little point system myself) was/is the other "major" issue. Jebus ...

I really hate to quote myself.

Is this an example of the 'denial phase' you mentioned earlier?

Correct. The stewards will decide the championship this year. Sadly.

NO NO NO.

The system they rejected (12-9-7) is what I would have liked to see, but the 10-8-6 was still a lot better than this nonsense.

WRONG.

FOTA did not agree to this. This is a unilateral decsision taken by Max that has bypassed the teams completely - that's why the likes of di Montezemelo are ranting against it.

The only ones making F1 political are Bernie and Max, trying desperately (despite having f****d the whole thing up) to cling on to power. That's what this is all about. All I'm saying is...FOTA could show them outright where that power lies...

Bla bla bla. It's easy to talk like that about driver who is inconsistent but fast.

The two old geezers saw Lewis didn't stand much of a chance of winning a race so implemented this rule. The bad decisions since Lewis joined F1 have been made because they are decisions that Max and Bernie can get away with. They didn't feel they could get away with the rule they really wanted 'no black guys in F1'.

Other than Bernie is on record as saying in about 1989 that what he really needed was a fast German and a black driver.

I enjoyed 1982, a season where the new system would be completely meaningless, since nobody won more than 2 races.

Well, it looks like the FOTA Group have managed to overcome the FIA.

What can we say about the FIA/WMSC. Imagine proposing a rule and voting it in when it is completely in contravention of the rules your body drew up. What do these people do in their day jobs - regulate banks!!!!!

There is still time to not go to the mad system that throws away a lot of important information generated in a race before the start of next year. To have a chance of getting it right someone should do the following;

Ask every person who cares how they would spread out 100 euro to everyone that finishes a F1 race and see what the average for 1st, 2nd, 3rd etc would be, down to whatever place they like. I would say that we would end up with something sensible, which would reward winning and finishing up the field. Moreover I think it would be unlikely that a driver that won less that 2 races of another driver would win the championship (it can always happen but it is about how likely this is).

Here is my preference

1st 34
2nd 22
3rd 16
4th 12
5th 9
6th 7

Yes second is close to first but much further away than today or the FOTA proposal and finishing outside the top 2 really hurts.

Also, the championship still ended up being between two drivers who are inconsistent and fast, even with the "consistency" points system. So there really is no logic behind the "gold medal" system at all.

Err, no! The idea is to get drivers to overtake instead of collecting safe points. Bernie has made a lot of comments about his idea, and this is all Bernie's idea, and not once did he mention that most wins should be awarded the WDC.

No, of course you won't, because you know you're DEAD WRONG!
