Your 'holy grail' of TV race broadcasts?

At the present moment, if you know where to look on the internet, you can get hold of copies of live TV broadcasts of Grand Prix races all the way back to the early sixties, races that I thought a visual record of didn’t even exist (live transmission of the 1963 German GP anyone? Colour highlights of the TV broadcast of the 1972 Austrian GP?). But despite this, there are many races that I’ve never seen a TV broadcast of in any form but would love to see. My personal holy grail would be to have a copy of a TV broadcast of the 1971 Italian GP. On YouTube there is a 2 minute documentary clip in Italian of the race, with brief snippets of live recording from the race. But I would love to see the whole hour and a half slipstreamer develop in front of my eyes, instead of the usual film clip of the finish that is shown whenever the race is mentioned in a documentary. The ‘raw’ feel of video brings more of an atmosphere to a race broadcast I think, as opposed to a film clip.
So what would be your holy grail of TV race broadcasts that you would love to see? Maybe you saw it on television live at the time and haven’t seen it on 30 or 40+ years, thinking the tape was discarded or wiped? Maybe you read about it in a magazine at the time and would like to see how the race unfolded for real? Maybe the race was never broadcasted in the first place. 1966 Indy 500? 1961 Monaco GP? 1971 1000Km of Zeltweg? Tell me what you would love to see.

Watching the old TV broadcasts, sometimes even without commentary are a special experience. As if the race is on again and transmitted live. However the older they get, the lower the quality.
My list would be basically all GP's in the 50's.

'course, the list could be longer but one wouldn't want to be greedy.
Not that I'm one eyed or anything.

Yes, some extensive coverage of Monza 1971 would be nice but I've only ever seen the clips to which you refer. I remember being really angry when, having covered 1967, 1969 and 1970 (I don't remember 1968) the BBC showed nothing in 1971, the last, very fast slipstreamer. I've got a feeling though that it wasn't their fault - wasn't their some dispute in Italy that resulted in no live television coverage of the event? Maybe some Italian TNFers can remember.
My wish list would include, again from 1971, the Spanish GP at Montjuich and some 1970s F2 from Crystal Palace, Rouen, Mallory and Thruxton. Oh, and a bit of 1970 British F3 at Brands and some mid-1970s Silverstone F Ford. And Mike Hailwood chasing down Emerson at the International Trophy in 1972......

I don't know, and I seriously doubt it! What's more, ideally I'd like my Langhorne broadcast to be a full TV production, not a single reel-to-reel from the main grandstand - i.e. three trackside cameras minimum, e.g. start/finish, "Puke Hollow" and end of "backstretch"!Originally posted by ivandjj

Jim Mckay - called delayed Indy 500 broadcasts back in the day and did it eloquently and efficiently. One of the best announcer's in American media during his time, he also called the US feeds of most GP races from Europe back in the day. Whom can forget his chilling call on the Ronnie Peterson tragedy @ Monza 1978? When paired with loquacious Jackie Stewart, Mckay would often let Jackie explain what was happening and why.
Paul Page - took over from Sid Collins on the radio calling the Indy 500 after Sid's untimley death in 1977, he always used the right choice of words to describe the action on the track. Ultimately Paul took over the Indy 500 broadcast on ABC from Jim Mckay and did an admirable job filling those huge shoes.
not really a dislike but... Chis Economaki...my god how my Dad used to get so upset during Nascar on CBS when they would throw it to the pits and Chris Economaki "what the hell are they going to him now during green? show the race and save him for yellow" my late Dad would bellow. Dad had a point, because, inevitably a crash/pass/lead change would happen while Economaki was creaming above the din in the pits.

Peter is absolutely right David and Odseybod, This is a low quality version but it's a good start...
After about 2 and a half minutes of a scratchy German highlight film and Neville Hay's roundup from the Duke 1970 review, your wish comes true. Complete with Eurovision title card proclaiming the broadcast is from Radio Tele Monte Carlo! IIRC full credit should go to Atlas member nigelred5 for tracking the broadcast down from a Norwegian TV station.
When you see the original on a full screen, only the fact that it's in B&W makes you not believe your actually there, such is the quality!
Now, if only the colour version (which i know is out there, there is a few seconds of it on the BBC doc 'Grand Prix 500') could be tracked down...
Yes he did make the 49C fly Odseybod!
Great comments guys, keep them coming.

That should keep us quiet for a while... If only. The opening few hours of Le Mans 1930 onboard Birkin and Caracciola should have been pretty good too.

Le Mans in 1930 and 1932
More of the Spanish GP at Montjuich (have seen a couple of clips)
Nurburgring 1000km races from the 1960s - any of them
Original Goodwood RAC TT and 9 Hours races - probably available somewhere, but I haven't seen them.
Many, many rally stages from the 50s and 60s.

Plus 1962 Solitude for much the same reasons (though less dramatic).
Consecutive weekends or thereabouts and both won by Dan Gurney in a Porsche - and the only Formula 1 races Porsche has won as a manufacturer so far!

The last 10 minutes of the race as shown in the original 1979 BBC highlights, from lap 75 onwards, with Murray's commentary:
Or the last 10 minutes of Austria's ORF broadcast, mit Deutsch commentary:

OT but the Lumiére brothers' Autochrome was well established for still photography by 1914. Some was taken to Antarctica by Ponting on Scott's expedition in 1910 with excellent results
