I'm working on an article on a 3 round series held in the North Island in early 1979, called the Open Saloon series. The three rounds were at Bay Park, Pukekohe, and Manfeild. Each round had 2 races, both of which were handicap starts. The leading contenders were ex-pat Kiwi Jim Richards in a Falcon Hardtop, Aussie John Briggs in a Chevy Monza, Leo Leonard in the PDL Mustang II with the McLaren F5000 wing mounted on the back, plus all the other leading Kiwi teams.
I've managed to get a bunch of black and white photos from my friend Terry Marshall, but I'm also wanting to add as many colour shots as possible. The quality doesn't matter, neither does it matter if they're racing shots or pit shots. I'm just after anything I can get.
If you don't have anything yourself, perhaps you could suggest someone who does?
Email me at: monsterracewear@paradise.net.nz
Thanks in advance
Steve

You may be in luck, though I will have to do a bit of digging. There were some neat pics posted a few days ago by "hatrat" on the "NZ Corvette powered" thread. Maybe he has a few more to share.
Can't remember being at those races, but 79 was a bit hazy all over.
If I find some previously published pics, would they be any use ? (copywrite acknowledged of course)

Anyone have an 'in' there ?
I don't recall seeing those programs but I sure would like too. The Olds/Imp sounds impressive, but it doesn't ring any bells. Was it a South Island Car ?

I haven't lived in NZ for close to 30 years so i wouldn't have any TVNZ contacts but someone must have an idea. The other program was one where Chris Amon tested cars.. Most memeorable was the Suzuki van which he almost put on it's nose when testing the brakes on camera.
Also,New Zealand Hot Rod magazine had lots of racing pics ,today it's run by Paul Grace in Auckland but when the Campbells ran it they were right into circuit and dirt racing .
