A controversial character given his personal proclivities. But we shouldn't forget that he presented the groundbreaking ABC TV Series Torque and later Marque which demonstrated to the masses that there was more to the car then just getting from A to B.

Also he was a handy steerer of a race car, especially Alfa Romeos....

Plus he worked at Racing Car News... Just like Ray Bell did! Ray do you have any personal memories that you would like to share?

He raced GTV2000 (105s) an Alfetta,that Alfetta sports sedan (what happened to that)

The 105 Series 2000 GTV (A LHD Autodelta car) was written off by Gordon Rich at Bathurst in 77.

The Alfetta sedan was converted back to road use and was advertised for sale in the Alfa club magazine in the mid 70s from recollection, but hasn't been sighted since.

Don't know what happened to the Alfetta GT sports sedan. (As an aside the Evan Green Brut 33 Alfetta GT rally car morphed into the Tony Edmondson Alfetta Chev sports sedan that met its demise at Surfers Paradise.

Wherrett returned to Alfas in later years. I believe he owned either a 1750 Berlina or Giulia Super when he was living in Queensland in the early 2000s. This must have been pre-woman mode, I would think...

Remember reading in Racing Car News,a write up on the Alfetta,from memory it had a 8 plug head and some Autodelta gear,was Peter Molloy involved with building it up?
One thing about PW he was in the open about his cross dressing (approval or not) i can think of a few Australian Racing drivers whom personal life is far from clean,yet they are still idolised.

I think you are very correct. From very unethical business practices, to very questionable private practices, there are quite a few famous drivers who would cringe at the thought of having their sins known to all....
