Do yourself a favor and -- if you still have the original disc -- download the GPLPS Installer. It's many of the best track and car graphical updates + the essential patches + some nifty utilities all packed into an easy installer.

Now there's a bit of a problem... i never had the original disc. I've been searching stores for an original version, since i d-led this one, but i've never seen one anywhere. On the internet, i could only find used ones, and i just didn't want to take the chance. I'll try and install the GPLPS installer, maybe that will work ...

Let's hope so, i found i still had around 150+ tracks on my pc stashed away somewhere, it would be a pity if i couldn't drive them anymore .. I even have been looking for a decent steeringwheel, i'm tempted to buy it

Let's hope it works ...

You can have it, new, for around 10 Euro from Mastertronic (ex Soldout Software) :
http://www.mastertro...roductLabelID=1

It's worth having even if you find out your copy works. :)

I can't see any sort of region code being used on data cdrom... For what it's worth, on racesimcentral.com forums, a guy from Canada reports he bought and installed one in june, from that uk-based store (I thought you were in Europe?)...

Alternatively, there are a few new boxes sold at amazon.com too, but I *think* they're just acting as proxy for that same store above... so you probably end up paying higher.

Ok, i'll have a go at it then. I live in Holland, so it's just across the channel. I just bid on a Guillemot Steering wheel ( i used to have one) , so it's all coming together now ...
can't wait !
I just tried the game again, and it works !! The only thing left is, that when i turn my steering wheel right, the car goes left, and vice versa... but i'll sort that out somehow...
And i tried to convert a newbie along the way, hope it works ...

I'll let you know if i get it back to working order, and see if i can match my times from waaaaaay back ;-)

In GPL > Options > Controllers when you assign the steering axis, just pay attention to the message. It asks you to turn one way (left or right - don't remember off-hand) first. That's where you went wrong.

No. This is a 1997 game.

It's the most immense Sim driving game, but you have to spend WEEKS to get it running well with all the updates.

After all that, you will realize how much you suck, but you will still have fun. I made some famous Ferrari mods to improve realism.

There are many aspects of this game that have never been reproduced -like full races and full race effects (flags, tire wear, mechanical failures). the Replay mode is the best, period.

This game was a decade ahead of its time. It was excellent. It made no money.

This is why there are no sims on consoles.

Not any more. There is a GPL Installer that take care of all that mess now.

I started driving GPL again, this time no wheel for momentary lack of living space, but joypad seems to work well enough.

Just, I lost my old disc and installed the Demo 2004 instead.

Problem: I still have the files installed from the original disc in an old laptop I don't use anymore.
I'd like to recover the original tracks from there, as they seem not available for download.

Just, I don't know how I should do it, i.e.which files to copy, where to put them and what else (registry changes?) I should do to have them running.

Help?

I got a new PC a month ago and I just copied the whole GPL folder from the old PC to a USB stick and from there to the new PC. No need for any register changes. Of course you can only copy the whole "Tracks" folder or separate tracks if you donĀ“t need them all. It ight be a good idea also to cope the 67season.ini to your new GPL folder (or create a new 67season.ini with GEM).

ALL the GPL tracks can be found here.

GPL Wiki page -> GPL FAQ is a great source of info.

Is there any way to change other drivers name?
I shiver when i race in Monaco and Lorenzo Bandini is close to me. I'm not sure it was a good idea to include him in the game

Another thing:
Is it possible to make your photo appear on the newspaper front page?

TIA

I'm not sure how to do it, but I'm sure that it can be done.

You can find out along with a lot of other tips at http://gplpp.com/ See > How to > other stuff > newspaper photo

For the AI names, there's a gpl_ai.ini with driver information in the gpl folder, but I think that the car graphics are linked to drivernames. If you change it in the gpl_ai.ini, you might get an error running a race.

Back up any files that you modify.

Everything worked well: The photo and the other drivers names. The file i've changed is driver.ini instead of gpl_ai.ini. New names appear everywhere and there has been no problem until now.
Thank you again.

Does anyone here agree with me that the 69 mod is much harder than the original, 67 mod? The cars are so darty on the straight. In the original configuration I can brake pretty late, but with the 69 cars the cars pull to the side of the camber incredibly...

The 69 mod is harder if you use the original setups : they are asymmetrical and the cars are bitches when set up this way for road courses.

Once you change the setting to symmetrical setup and give some wing, cars will be actually much easier than the 67 ones, albeit probably not as fast as in default setups.

The new Ferrari is launched today. Its codename is F10. I wonder if Alonso and Massa will drive it using F10 view!

How hot is too hot for the tyre temperatures? I felt like I was losing grip at the rear after a few laps on a tweaked set-up. The main screen showed that the current temperatures were around 220 degrees, but I don't know if my perceived loss of grip was actually due to excessive heat in the tyres or just a poorly balanced car/ragged driving style.

Below 110 celcius is cold and above 130 hot. I feel that 120-125 is optimal. For me the difficult thing is to get fronts warm on some tracks.

In rFactor (which is a GP Legends-grandchild) I have difficulty getting the tyres about 100 degrees!

Does anyone know if GPL will work with Windows 7? I haven't tried yet and have an urge to trundle around the Nordschleife for a bit.

I fear the only thing you do is try... and presumable fail! Even if it works on 2.000.000 millions Windows 7 Computers, there is still no guarantee it will work on your machine, I fear. Go for it, buddy!

True. I didn't get a chance last night so I'll have a look tonight and see if it will run.

There are lots of people running GPL in Windows 7 with no problems. Just make sure that your graphic card drivers are up to date for that OS.

I first tried to play GPL some 10 years ago, but I just got bored by the games difficulty and bad graphics (I was used to playing GP3, using keyboard)
I started to play GPL again recently, with the updates the graphics look better and with a good setup and using the max linear settings (I'm still playing with keyboard) the game is quite enjoyable, I'm just doing some practice laps, I'm not to far from the "AI" default best laps but still making many mistakes.. I was playing with no damage, I turned on on realistic and I blew the engine in the first lap, I think I need to take the foot of the gas pedal to change gears lol.... I started doing this and lost around 2 sec per lap in the small tracks :(
I need to practice more and maybe get a wheel, but this old game is still plenty of fun and challenge

the biggest issue I have is with the sound... tried many different things but I still get the strange engine noise many times....
