I've seen some loose comments on which car will perform well in the rain.
Let's gather that information here.

According to some toyota has set some good times during pre-season testing in the wet. whereas Brawn haven't run at all in the wet.
With grooved tyres the weight distribution has to be more rearward compared to the slicks. This is an advantage to the heavy rear kers users, but will they be able to benefit from their power boosts?

what do you think?

Brawn GP, I think its traction is the best by far.

I can't imagine KERS will ever be used in the wet as it would break traction.
I happen to be a fantasic wet weather driver myself, and I know that extra power is useless.

Anywhere they can use full throttle, they can use KERS.

Full throttle can't be used on a road car in the wet.

Sure it can, even more so than a race car.

That's the point{kind of}.....as long as it's wet, F1 drivers won't use Kers.

I doubt they'll bother.......only Hamo and Alonso could get away with it as they're so late on the brakes.

Thus delaying their throttle application due to higher entry speed. Nice theory.

I remember a wet race (I think China) a couple of years ago where Button clearly used the 'O/T' (overtake) button to get extra revs/power to overtake. It's the same thing as using KERS.

Rain just increases the minimum speed before you're no longer traction limited. There will be a speed, above which, full throttle is fine. It's not like they'll be on slicks.

Given Coulthard's claims that the Toyota is easy on the throttle, it could be them. I think KERS cars wioll suck badly in wet racing, so no advantages there ):

Brawn, by a huge margin.

Melbourne even when dry tends to have poor lateral grip. The Brawn car was like it was on rails even in qualifying where everyone else was snaking all over the track.

Button is a pretty handy driver in the wet as well.

Brawn probably. It has more downforce than the rest of te pack and it looked extremely easy to drive and well balanced in Australia. To add to their advantage, both Button and Barrichello are both quick and solid in the rain. The Toyotas will probably be thereabouts and Vettel has performed well in wet conditions before, plus the RB looks quite quick aswell.

I believe form is still uncertain on both the Macs and the Ferraris, the Renault seems to be a dog although the Alonso factor might lift them to a podium with some luck. The Bimmers looked decent, but still questionmarks hanging over their true form. Kubica's performance was flattered circumstances such as the mistake on Button's last stop. And if the soft tyres had been up to the job Kubica would have been a distant third at best. Distant fourth if Barrichello hadn't gone in antistall.

I am glad there is some realisation that a smuch as we like to think there are "rain meisters' the truth is that some cars suit the rain better and it's usually the better cars. Last year and in 07 we saw RBR and STR make real inroads in the wet, so they must have had something that helped them.

The one which generates more downforce and it's better set up for the conditions.

More downforce -----> Brawn
Better set up -----> We'll see :D

In winter testing, based on the laptimes it was Toyota without a doubt.

However, Brawn didn't run in the wet and since then teams have upgraded their cars so it's hard to say.

Today's press conf...

Q. (Andrea Cremonesi – La Gazzetta dello Sport) Sorry, my question was can only the weather make the change, the difference? Is there somebody else who can fight for victory in this Grand Prix?

JB: Rubens?

:rotfl:

A little sneaky bit of arrogance getting through there that you can all start to hate him for. He's British too, just to ease you're consciences.

More down to the driver, I would have thought.

Button
Vettel
Sutil (Monaco last year?)
Alonso

Couldn't they use KERS to get a smoother output in some turns instead of extra peak performance?

guess ull use kers much later on, think in melbourne lewis did do some very short bursts of kers, might see that too

the downforce they produce will really help them out, but they probably still get abit of wheel slippage at high speed still :o

I can't believe Webber's skill in the rain goes un-noticed. Maybe his high profile spin (or 2) at Silverstone counted against him, but the guy is very quick in wet conditions.

Unfortunately, Vettel is also great, so if they 1-2 everyone will assume they've got a great car in the wet!

I'm not sure I understand this thread. There are good, bad and indifferent cars and thats how they stay when its raining. Drivers on the other hand........

Fair weather fans really (pun intended) Vettel is the new number one at the team this week, so number 2 doesn't get talked about unless its contract related issues. Or the bugger upstarts the order of things McLaren 2007.

Adrian Sutil is the guy I would be watching the most, or Lewis Hamilton, hell stick Fisi in there as well I remember his blitzing SPA run in 05', the teams that aren't near the pointy end can take riskier decisions as to setup for weather predictions. As seen with Torro Rosso, Force India last year.

Would appear Red Bull, Brawn and whichever car has managed to guess which tyres to use :rotfl:
