Get rid of KERS at once.

If the claim is true or not, F1 goes back into similar territory when TC was banned the first time.

Hadn't thought of that.
If so, then that article was on the moronic side.

The article wasn't on the moronic side, it's there to provoke a reaction, and fool people, which as evidenced by this thread, it has :p

It would be good if it wasn't so plausible, technical issues aside. How long before we actually see a protest over a KERS issue?

If this is an April Fool, it's rubbish. It's far too plausible these days with everyone protesting everyone else and there's no obvious hook to give it away as a joke. It might just be genuine.

If its fake story, then purpose has only been to lure more visitors. I checked that they have 5 ad-banners on that site.

Some of these April Fools, including this one, have been crap. The whole point of an April Fool is to fool people into believing something that, when you look back, is just not plausible.

This story actually sounds plausible, if it were true. It's a crap joke.

Agreed. Hamilton to Brawn, Danica in Playboy. They make you giggle, and you move on. This story isn't actually funny, it isn't ridiculous - and indeed given the current climate in the paddock, it's totally, 100% plausible. Analysis of performance from engine noise isn't fiction - it's been done for some time.

There is a difference between writing a good April fool, and just writing bollocks.

http://www.autosport...rt.php/id/74124 is, to my mind, more plausible as April Fool. "The FIA process we've operated under ever since I've been in F1 is perfect in terms of how close you can get to perfect" - seriously - that's priceless.

Plausible? Yes. But you'd have to say that the "Sophisticated software" would have to be very much so to give such accurate readings of HP from the exhaust sound of a very fast moving object!!! IMO of course.
Tony.

Having heard a rather marvellous rendition of La Marseillaise from a Renault engine at Goodwood a couple of years ago, I should not be surprised what they can analyse from sound.

Teams have been analysing exhaust notes for years to determine horsepower, gear ratios etc. So I think its entirely plausible.

May I just say, quite off topic, that although TC is banned, teams are still doing what they can to make it work (outside the spirit of the rules).
Discussed at length last year was the sound of a car as it left the pits, and so this year as I sat in turn 16 on the last corner before the straight at Albert Park, I wasnt at all surprised to hear several cars accelerate out of the corner with a very farty engine misfiring type of sound. Didnt happen often, but when it did it was obvious. Just like the TC of old.
Listen for it this weekend at the Malaysian GP. Since I was at the track, I havnt yet watched the TV broadcast of the Melbourne race, but if I see/hear anything when I do, I'll let you know.

If it's not an April fool's, then it's probably renault complaining about McLaren.

The new proposal is to remove aerodynamics design from F1. The car must be covered by a plastic box 4mx2mx1m.
