You would think that he would have learned his lesson from last week, but apparently not!

With only a couple of minutes left of FP2, Vettel dived into the corner inside Heidfeld, clearly going to fast for the corner, and ended up cutting across Heidfelds path.

I don't doubt for 1 minute that it was an accident, and just a little bit of inexperience, but twice in a week? That's good going! :clap:

Remember last season, the first few races he was like a magnet for trouble!

It was pretty stupid, definitely. Its just practice Vettel, there's no point risking things like that. Yes, you were on a good lap, but having to make an overtaking maneuver like that was going to ruin your lap time anyways, so you might as well have just backed off and given yourself a gap. And then he had the audacity to throw his hand up at Heidfeld.

I like the kid, but he needs to calm down a bit. I may be reading too much into things, but I think Webber's speed is really giving him some pressure.

Watch the body language of Vettel and Webber's cars and watch the live timing. make no mistake, they trade fastest laps even in free practice. As soon as Webber goes faster Vettel turns a faster one then webbo returns serve. This is a great battle.

Schumacher flew off the road a lot - in practice - and he certainly learned a few things didn't he?

As far as Vettel goes, he seemed to do fairly well at Monza last year in the rain...

What do you mean, twice in a week? Are you counting Kubica's mistake in Melbourne last Sunday?

He's quickly becoming my favorite driver if he wasn't already. Nothing wrong with finding the limit in practice. Why the heck would you want to do it in the race?

I don't think Seb has any axe to grind. He knows which team he ultimately wants to drive for one day.

Oh and btw, he is petrified of mice. :lol:

He was a fast lap...only half a tenth down to Kimi at sector 2, when he came upon Heidfeld on the back straight.

HE certainly has (cool) balls !

It was different with Schumacher: in those days you always had a spare car ready, so you could take the risk and don't worry about the next session.

These kinds of things are the reason why topteams let Vettel stay at a subtopteam (on paper) for just a little longer. No matter if it is your fault= you should have the brains to not be victim of other people their stupid mistakes (like we have to pay attention to traffic from the left, in case they make a mistake).

The more experienced a driver gets, the better (not perfect) he gets at predicting trouble (Barrichello and DC excluded).

I have had many times in front of the TV wondering why MSC or Hakkinen dropped 1 or 2 places after a first lap incident, only to see in replay that if he hadn't done that he would have been hit and would have been eliminated.

If he took Heidi out there he could quite possibly get a further penalty for the race, so it leans towards the silly end of the scale IMO.

Didn't see the incident. Doesn't sound too good (after last week).

He's been very erratic so far, both from bad luck and from mistakes. Lost time in Melb practice with car problems. Then made driver error and beached it in grass. He hardly had any laps leading into quali but still did the business in quali. Had an outstanding race until the race incident. He's quick, there's no doubt about it. He's also a bit raw, but it's early in his career and he can afford to take more chances.

Well, practice is a long way from a race and he is just going to end up with a damaged car/poor setup for the real race (due to lost practice laps) if he keeps on pushing his luck.

Re: Kubica/Vettel in Aust. Vettel knows it was a stupid move and is paying for it again this week (although I think the penalty is a bit harsh). Not sure Kubica will do too much different next time.

I actually like the guy and think he has great potential but get p*ssed off seeing people 'racing' during practice/testing when the other guy is just trying to get through his program.

While I am of opinion that Vettel is to blame for Australia incident, I see no reason to critisise him for FP2 dive into last corner. He tried too hard, he outbraked himself, he knows now that such manouver does not work at that corner if other driver keeps his cool on race line. That's what the practice is for , isn't?

I just don't think it is worth the risk but I am happy to see Vettel lose setup time. I'm a Webber supporter and it looks like he is going to need all the help he can get to beat Vettel

Had a look at Vettel's race lap times from Australia and they look pretty impressive. Too bad the Kubica incident threw it all away...

I am happy to see it, as it shows that SV is being hurried along by Mark.
I wonder if MW will be quicker as his fitness improves or whether it will be this close all season

If any of them are like me I have been reading the forums for years and eventually got round to getting an account a year or two ago.

I forgot my password though and due to the fact that the email address was a work one I no longer had couldn't get a new one and had to re register!

I'm still massively impressed with Vettel keeping up his good pace in practice. Clearly he is putting himself and car in high positions and pestering cars that are quicker than his.

He's got innate speed, no doubt. But I'm not sure that's really the case as both Red Bull drivers look like they are all over the Brawns and Ferraris this weekend. I think with the late launch of the car they were still in catch up mode in Melbourne and seem to be ... well, catching up now. The RBR is genuinely quick.

I love the guy, but I agree with what Ant Davidson* said that he simply needs to learn not to get over excited at times.

I haven't read too much about it but I think he was penalised because he braked early, then let off the brakes when he realised Kubica was going around the outside. Still a harsh penalty IMO but I don't believe he would have been punished without the brake thing. That's the only reason I can think of anyway...
