Ok, here goes: I am a very competent driver and have raced go-karts. So I would never in a thousand year have any chance of mastering a monster 917 or even a current or seventies F1 car. So I'll go for a shark nose around Spa. I think I could handle that AND enjoy myself without the risk of either soiling my pants or kill myself.

Interestingly, I asked Chris Rea at Donington on Sunday what it was like to drive his recreation of the sharknose, and he rather dissapointingly said "a bit like a Formula Junior".
I also asked Chris (a man who is able to make his dreams a reality) what his favourite drive was, and it was "David Piper's 330P around Spa; Awesome!"...................

As for the "dream ride", I'd go for a Miller 122 in the Indy 500. Not the most exciting of tracks to drive on, but boy, what an event!

Come on, don't be so sensible. If we're all heading for Fantasy Land, at least let's do it properly!

I wrote " and enjoying"
I view the game from the standpoint of who and what I am (and was) and I can't imagine enjoying a Porsche 917 or a current F1 car.

After the race, they would have found out I was lying, and that the telegram was forged. By that time I would have been zapped to my own time, and Jim would still be alive.
Oh, sorry. That was not the intention, I understand.

LeMans 1971, Matra 660. Beltoise gets ill and I get to co drive with Amon.
BTW, I'll ask Chris about the sound difference.

One question - do we have to pick a car that actually raced on the circuit we pick?
Or even be from the same era?
Which is two questions...
In other words, could I pick, for example, an Auto Union at Indianapolis in 1939...or a Brawn at Avus in 2009??

If you read the very first post the answer woudl be Yes to both your questions.
However reading through most people have stuck to the historically correct car/race/circuit theme!

What I really meant was "any race" meaning Monza 1982, Le Mans 1968, Kyalami 9hr 1970..etc but we won't be too fussy

I'd have the differential checked carefully in practice for any potential problems, qualify on the outside of the front row, dive inside Jack at Druids, pull away for lap after lap and enjoy the Kent scenery. When coming up to lap Denny, I would tow Clay through to fourth and, having lapped Jochen and Jack with twenty laps remaining, would back off allowing them to save a bit of fuel in my slipstream. After the race I would note that Jack was lucky that his fuel lasted until Paddock on the slowing down lap and would hear Colin saying 'don't bother' as one of the Lotus mechanics began to lean heavily on the Lotus 72 rear wing.

The car was loud everywhere, but in the cockpit, one had the added sounds of engine mechanicals and gearbox. Chris was glad he used good earplugs early in his career and still has good hearing to this day, unlike some of his cohorts.

"I think I'll take the Ferrari 312B at the British Grand Prix at Brands in 1970"
Couldn't agree more. This was the first GP I ever attended and it made me an Ickx fan for life. Something to do with the noise, the colour and gold wheels of that car.
Shame the race lasted more than 6 laps! I'm sure he would have lapped everyone. The king of Brands Hatch, if ever there was one!
