Who's the bigger legend among those two? Since I didn't watch SBK while Fogarty raced I can only claim to have seen Bayliss, which means I am a little bit biased in choosing him, but on the other hand, both of these two were magic :up:

But please don't think I'm biased when I say that Bayliss's missing finger could outrace Fogarty nine times out of ten.

Incidentally I found out the other day that it was Foggy's dad who was the backmarker that cost Barry Sheene the win at Silverstone in '79.

I have no doubt that Bayliss is/was the, by far, better racer. But equally, I am in no doubt that Foggy is the bigger 'legend'.

I don't know, I guess its personal opinion but I have met him quite a few times and he always came across as a bit of an arrogant schmuck.

There is no denying he was great on a bike but i wouldn't call him a legend. especially considering the bike he was on and the questionable advantage it had over the fours.

To be honest the same point applies to Bayliss. They are both Ducati legends certainly.

Saying that Foggy's best ride ever was on a Yamaha.

On a per race basis Troy is miles in front - 1 in 3 wins to Carl's nearly 1 in 4. If Troy had done as many races as Carl did he would be a far bigger legend. Alas, his chance (ironically because of Carl's crash at Philip Island) came too late in his life to take full advantage.

Wrong, wrong, wrong - As much as I disliked Fogarty's demeanor he was the best of the best in his era. Having a crap personality doesn't make him a bad racer anymore than it hindered Schumacher.

What we all can agree on is that both were excellent talents who given the best bike could pulverise the field completely. The thing that really impressed me was the shock win Bayliss took in his final MotoGP race, effectively proving that he wasn't as crap as some people thought! That was a very good day for the reputaion of SBK, simply because before people had called it an amateur league for guys who couldn't win a race in MotoGP anymore.

Throw in Haga's stats and you see how consistency is key the championships. He already has many many wins and podiums.

Sky Sports did some job on hyping Fogarty in fairness.

Haga could well be the fastest person ever to race in WSB but the guy is about as consistent as the Irish weather.

Until this season where he has started with 1-2-2-2-1-1. That's some consistency, and I hope he can keep it up :up:

Yeah. He's finally getting it together for a shot at the title. I remember when he first starting riding in WSB he was doing some crazy ****. Throwing the bike down the inside into corners where you'd he def fall. Prob the most exciting rider I've ever seen and that's including Rossi.

Yep, he's amazing in that sense, now he's looking like Bayliss (crazy but under control). Perhaps it's something with that Yamaha, since Spies looks like a young Haga all over again so far this year, witness his crash at Valencia for example. The amazing thing with Haga is that he'd never been injured prior to his crash in US last year ;)

Personalities don´t count in racing, results do.
Both were very successfull, so, on that count, it´s hard to separate them.
Will to win? Again on a par I think.
Record in MGP? Well obviously Troy wins this one, but to be fair, Foggy never went to the line on a full works bike that was the best at the time, so no conclusion there.
How does one separate them then? At the end of the day, I don´t think one can. They were both awesome talents who, when the spotlight was on them, delivered the goods. I, personally, loved them both.
