Safety Car Driver.

Never picks up the right car, laps 45 seconds off the pace, and i suspect his car is illegal and that's the only reason he has led a few laps this year.

Kazuki Nakajima. At least Piquet won races in GP2.

I think it has more to do with race control though. Bernd Maylander just sits in the car and does what he is told on the radio. And he definitely knows what he is doing, remember Nurburgring 2007?

As for the current F1 grid, I don't really know what's the role of Piquet Jr. in the team.

Naka = PK jr.

Both would not have had a chance without the pull they've got (engines, just like Satoru, and PK jr, if he was Nelson AnyotherName he would not have got the seat to start with, let alone got another year this year). I admit I didn't see PK Jr in any other formula except F1 and A1GP, but seeing him in A1GP he never took the same line twice, and wasn't that clever in wheel-to-wheel racing. As for Naka, well at least Sato was **fast** and entertaining while he was binning it...

I understand he's in a team that's justifiably focussed around a multiple-wdc. But I seriously expected he could have done better than that. Both are equally undeserving. I'd rather see someone like Hulkenberg (sp?) with the seat, but I know he's contracted to Williams atm.

Plus he was constantly ignoring the closed pit rules under full-course yellows last year.

I guess it depends on how you interpret 'least deserving driver in F1' - as in 'deserved to get his seat' or 'deserves to keep his seat'.

PK has a better record in lower formula but has been a disappointment in F1.

Naka only got his seat via toyota engines but IMO has performed better than expected - certainly better than PK.

Fisichella has won in two different cars. Bourdais is a multiple Champcar champion. What about Najakima? Son of... and "imposed" by Toyota...

Despite those facts, those were primer's choices. Let the dude have his opinion.

I wonder about young Piquet Jr. I think perhaps he might perform better in another team, i.e. one where Flavio isn't his boss. For my money, it's Fisi. What exactly is he bringing to FI? Let a younger driver in for the experience and bow out gracefully.

:rotfl: You're never going to get over it are you?

Unluckily for you Hamilton was voted no1 by the team principals and STILL has scored more points since he started than any other driver. Amazing. So he's at the exact opposite end of the scale for the thread topic, back luck :p .

Candidates for least deserving are Kovy (sadly) Piquet, Naka. Kovy may be able to turn it round, he has more talent than he's shown but that is a pressure seat. PK and Naka, well surely there must be better options for those teams. PK just does not have the kind of confidence they need for F1, Naka is always going to DNF too regularly. Di Resta, why *don't* they try him?

hang on a second, what's the the title of the post? least deserving... as a assume and not least able driver

I am not doubting of his abilities as a driver, hamilton is a bloody quick driver, none else would have matched alonso in the same car as he did, but IMO he's the least deserving driver for the reasons exposed above, period

you might ignore sportmanship and loyalty as indispensable attributes but they are essential to me

One of those wins was a rain lottery. And not to be too harsh, his other win at Renault was in a car which won Fernando championship. We know where poor Fisichella was compared to Fernando. :D

Tut-tut. The question was "Least Deserving Driver in F1?" He should go back to winning in Champcar....oh. Purely on basis of his (non)performance in F1, Bourdais needs to be kicked out. This is his last year anyways.

Yeah he too hasn't shown anything special yet. Could be his last year too.

To me it's just his exceptional qualifying talent that puts his car to grid places where it doesn't belong such as the P2 at Sepang. After all he scored 31 points last year, beating his team mate and Ralf the year before that.

Freedom of speech? im entitled to my opinion and i don't need some idiot stating obvious sarcasm. I know what he's done, i just think there are alot of 'better' drivers that could have gotten his seat, as Martin said, he wasn't that great in other formulae.

why not? he was deliberatedly stayed apart from strategies and favours within the team and still was able to score as many points as mclaren's golden boy by pushing and playing as hard as he could, that's what I call sportmanship and loyalty to his own person and his fans throughout the world

You're on thin ice here. Alonso has not been loyal even to Renault, complaining publicly about 'lack of support' in 06 then the moment he was back in 08 immediately making it clear he was looking to get out to a faster team at the earliest opportunity. Skipping debriefs even, IIRC that was confirmed at Canada. He lied to live world feed camera and to the FIA about the Hungary countdown and is the only one of the current drivers to have been punished for brake-testing.

So is he 'least deserving'?

it's OK I don't think so either :p

Both Nelson and Heikki get similar cars and support (access to telemetry, other team infrastructure) compared to their team mates. This 'entire support to one driver' is nonsense excuse. They are being outdriven and outperformed by their respective team mates.

Are you serious? Keep drinking the kool aid.

Trulli, like Webber, has the ability to place his car far higher up the grid than it really should be. It's inevitable that once the race starts and the shortcomings of the car become apparent - shortcomings that can be disguised on a single lap with new tyres - the car and driver will fall back.

In which case, it's Trulli's job to do his best to hold the drivers behind him back for as long as possible and thus maximise his own chances at the expense of theirs.

Jeez, have you lived in a cave for the last century? Nelson and Heikki may well be slower/less talented than their team mates but getting the full support or #1 treatment makes a hell of a difference. Not just in such obvious things as new parts and the best race strategies but the entire mental comfort zone and general support.

There are simply too many examples showing it matters, from Johnny Herbert saying he didn't want the same car as Schumacher but rather a car designed/prepared for his own preferences like Schumacher got to a picture of Senna at Lotus surrounded by engineers, the team boss and many mechanics while at the same time Johnny Dumfries is sitting all alone in a corner....
