Just wondering, do any of them smoke currently... I know back 20/30 years ago, you would get the odd few smoking, but you never get any drivers' smoking nowadays.

None of them smoke openly and if any smoke at all it's at most a cigarette a week or something. F1 is way more physically demanding now that it was 30 years ago.

I've seen both fisi and barri smoking in a karaoke party in japan, but it was the last race of the year and both were "slightly" drunk

I don't think any of them smoke regularly, but there might be some who smoke a cigarette or two at parties, at home or so.

I've seen Kimi indulge, but not recently, so I can't say if he's given up or not.

How coincidental this thread is. At Malaysia during BBC pre/race warm up, they were stood behind the STR garage and guess who ya could see, squatting down leaning against the wall and having a quick drag?

Sebastian Bourdais :smoking:

Good old Keke.

Valen used to have an avatar that looked like MS smoking a pipe, but it was too small to be certain.

Jan Magnussen was the last "hard core" smoker in F1 that I know about; I think he was more than a pack-a-day smoker.

From AutoSport's own Toby Waller about Jan joining Stewart:

"Jan Magnussen, on the other hand, has only ever competed in one F1 race - Aida, 1995. After a stunningly dominant F3 championship in 1994, Magnussen has spent the last couple of years hopping from his McLaren test drives, along to the Mercedes ITC team and, finally, over the pond to race in a clutch of Indycar races. He's happy to be renewing his relationship with the team that provided him with that F3 championship; so happy, in fact, that he's apparently been encouraged to give up smoking and the occasional McDonalds in order to further tone that aggressive edge."

The rest of the article here.

I can't believe he was allowed to smoke driving for McLaren. Then again, Marlboro was their primary sponsor back then.

Forgot about Nick. He admitted it in an interview once. They asked him if he had any bad habits and he said, "When I have drink, I smoke."

Yeah, exactly this scenario. Though I was not much better.

Nick is a fascinating guy.

The king of F1 cigarette smokers was, for sure, James Hunt.

Check out his number one priority after the finish of the 1976 British Grand Prix.

The whole Mika Salo carbon brakes/black lung thing was openly laughed at because he smoked like a badly tuned diesel.

Schumacher yesterday watching his son karting - a beer in one hand, a cigar in the other.

Posted Image

I don't think he smokes cigarettes, but he regularly smokes cigars. He already did in his last 4-5 years of F1.

I know Frentzen and Mika Salo smoked. I have seen Häkkinen with a cigarette too, but I don't know if he started after he retired or already smoked before that.

I think a lot of people do that. Several years ago, I went to a work party and there were all kinds of people smoking (and drinking) who never smoked at work.

I really like that shot. Shows Schumacher to be very chilled out indeed. If he had a bratwurst also the picture of German relaxation would be complete.

Bet he has it in his back pocket :drunk: :drunk:

Dunno about F1, but I have seen WTCC men Rob Huff, Jörg Müller, Tom Coronel and Duncan Huisman smoking. Two latter ones didn't hide it. But Huffy and Jörgi were ashamed like schoolboys when I bump into them between the piles of tyres in the paddock.

Then there was unsuccessful F1 driver but touring car cigarette legend "Smoking" Jo Winkelhock.

There was actually a great feature in Autosport magazine during the winter about racing drivers who smoke.

There was a great section on some NASCAR guy from times past who used to smoke during the race!

There's actually a good cigar article Schumacher did, he was interviewed by a cigar aficinardno a while ago, it's on the net.

Smoking with Michael Schumacher

Michael Jordan also smoked cigars

"Off the track, he is just like just another guy," says one official with Formula One. "He enjoys his family and friends and likes nothing better than a good party." And a good cigar.

Close, but no cigar(ette) Madras!

The hole was for his drink bottle tube, and the plucky Keke found a dual use for it!
