Briatore's Comments on the Brawn Drivers
#1

Quoting Briatore "The drivers in our teams have been and are world champions, while the championship is now fought between a driver who was almost retired and another one who is a good guy but a paracarro (Italian saying for being as slow as a milepost at the side of a road),"
I have to say that I find these comments to be disgusting, inaccurate and just down right mean spirited. That aside, while the credibility of the championship can probably be questioned due to the general mismanagement of the FIA and FOM, I think he should probably point his criticism internally to his own team before making public comments like these.

I think Flab should stick to the commercial side of the sport, I tend to agree with his comments on that. On the sporting side he clearly can't look at things objectively

Too true - he consistently has sour, emotionally charged comments to say about other teams and drivers when he isn't getting his way. I just thought this round from him was particularly nasty.

Spot the difference Ross.
BB Board: anonymous multilangual group of people who have no hand in F1
Briatore: Head of Renault F1.
That half of the BB here thinks the same as Flavio is a clear indication that they know squad about F1 and motorracing in general. Which is no suprise. That Flavio says things like these (we must think he said it, can't see misquotes here), is an indication his succes as a teammanager must have a suprising background...

May be it is the other half that is slamming him.

Pathetic comments from Flavio because he's at the back of the grid. Anyway, I thought Alonso was worth 6 tenths and was able to walk on water?

Did he say anything last time the 'paracarro' fought for the championship? F1 is like this, every once in a while someone comes up with a car that is superior. The others catches up.
But I think Flavios comments say a lot about the direction F1 is in. They do not want to develop no more, they want to do marketing. I guess the road to spec F1 is paved.

I think he'd say the same thing if he was in direct competition with them. Ron Dennis probably would have said a similar thing, but with different words. And people would have criticised Dennis for being bitter. The people on this board read the quotes the way they want to read them to fit their opinion.

Flavio is a different character. He is a loveable rogue, isn't he? He is a fantastic, flamboyant character who I think doesn't necessarily always have his thumb on the details, but he is very happy to wave his arms and state his case. Again, you have to like Flavio really, but I would not necessarily take too seriously what he is saying not least because I am not aware that anyone in the media has identified or commented on this point before he raised it himself. So he is running around saying, they said this, that and the other, but we are not actually. He is doing it. Flavio is Flavio.

Yes, because history proves that Flavio complains and whines about current rules when Alonso is winning. I don't think he'd be making a fuss if the shoe was on the other foot. I suspect he's really annoyed because the team promised Alonso would have a fast car this year and the team are not delivering. I'd love Alonso to be up there fighting with Button for the championship, and that's what Renault should be concentrating on. I'm sure they are.
Sure, a good number of members have an agenda and will misinterpret an opinion, but based on what Flavio has said, I think their opinions are justified. It's pots and kettles.

The results show that Button is the fastest, most consistent, "superstar" driver in F1... always on the limit, super smooth, no mistakes. The simple observation of either conducted race shows that JB is the best driver in the field BASED ON THOSE RACES , hardly consistant with Flavio's assessment.

He has been like this since I remember, and he always will be. Whether you love him or hate him you can not deny that he offers some entertainment value both on the pitwall and whenever he speaks to the press.
tbh, i think the important thing is in no posistion whatsoever to judge Rubens, or Jensons ability.

"Just when there's talk of setting a budget cap to 30 million, we've spent 15m for KERS and 10m more for the diffusers. We're left with five to travel and to pay the employees."

Like others have said, it happens from time to time in F1 that one team finds a significant loophole in the rules and exploits it. Either you allow that to happen or F1 becomes like NASCAR. Personally I don't want F1 to become NASCAR and Flav is out of order.
Not just Flav either but the teams who lost the appeal should stop moaning and try to get the rules changed so clear decisions on legality are made as soon as winter testing begins.

So what? It's not like it's always the best driver who wins the WDC. Button wouldn't be the first one.

Well the KERS is an FIA created problem, and Renault would have to spend the rest on improving their car anyway.

That said I reckon now that they have fixed testing they should nominate an 'official test day' either at the last test before the first race or the penultimate test (to give time to test modifications) and run it as an official FIA session with tech inspection and everything. That way you can lodge protests, which is the only way to fix these things. Otherwise the first chance you have available to go through the system is the very first race. Which is why almost every year now we have some squabble over flexing or otherwise out-of-dimension parts.
They could model it after the 'Grand Prix Zero' model MotoGP uses and have an hour long televised session and whoever sets the fastest time gets a prize of some kind.

I'm not sure any system would get rid of the squabbles unless the whole chassis etc. is frozen, as new parts could be added at any time up to the point of scrutineering.
