Could anyone in the know offer some kind of overlay map to show how the modern Kyalami circuit relates to the old? Recalling how the old circuit looked, and having just watched coverage of the Superbike race from there, the layout left me completely befuddled...

...the layout left me completely befuddled...

If it's of any consolation it did me too when I was there for the GP in '92! I even drove one of our snappers round for a lap or two (with permission) in order for him to record the new layout, but that didn't help me at all... :|

From what I remember, the old start-finish straight was by then under a business park and the only shared part of the old circuit and the new was in the area which used to be known as Sunset corner - albeit now going in the other direction.

Nice maps, sorry about the spelling...

Crawthorne (Crowthorne), Leukoop (Leeukop), Westbank (Wesbank)

Doug,

This gives you the overlay. Kyalami

Twinny, shows sunset taking in the same direction, but reprofiled a little I believe.

Thats right, Sunset is taken in the same direction, then left through Clubhouse, on to the Esses and head up the hill..about halfway up the hill you used to turn right into Leeukop but you now carry on to the top of the hill which is Wesbank and turn left and go back down the hill which is the Mineshaft.
From the old Leeukop right down the main straight and around Barbecue is now part of a business park and unrecognisable. There is a little bit of tarmac where Jukskei was as it joins on to turn 4. Make sense?
This image shows it nicely...

I'd tried to piece the two together before, thanks for that. I did the idiotic thing of expecting the two start finish straights to possibly have been in similar positions.... silly me.

Hey didnt I ask the same question about two weeks ago? I wonder if it got answered.. I was watching the WSB race and couldnt get a sense of where anywhere was on the track.

Nice onboard of Kyalami after its latest revisions. Very hard to relate to the old circuit, but seems like a beautiful track in it's own right. Nice to see some grass and trees too rather than the tarmac-over-swampland aesthetic of most new or modernized circuits.

As a Saffer I'm excited about this upgrade and hope that we can attract some international racing again.

Doesn't look like much has changed since it's early 90s revival
