Can anyone remeber the names any particular saloon car races (pre 1970) famously held at Oulton Park?

The most famous must surely be the 1967 Tourist Trophy, which was run as a round of the European Touring Car Championship...

...or are you looking for names of sponsored races, Phil? I can recall the Redex Gold Cross Trophy, while Osram-GEC sponsored a saloon series in the late '60s, as well as the Spring Grove Trophy series.

From 1963 - 1968 the British Saloon Car Championship races run at the Spring and Gold Cup meetings do not seem to have a particular name or title.

Redex Gold Croos in 1969 was quite a common one at Oulton - my late Dad did four of them at Oulton that year alone!!

The Redex Gold X, Osram-GEC and the Spring Grove Trophy series were all championships at Brands, as was the Westover series, was that a southern based series, or did it go to Oulton too?

Spring Grove had a round at Oulton- no idea then, or now, what Spring Grove was!

Wasn't it linen hire, or some such.

All great suggestions chaps, keep them coming.

It is in fact HSCC who want to put a name to a saloon car race at the Gold Cup and have asked me for ideas.

Westovers, Springrove and Osram are all still trading.....surely a good link to their past, although Westover is predominantly Hants & Wilts based.

If HSCC want to do the nostalgia thing and have it related to old saloon car races , perhaps Westover is the more appropriate since Westover Driving Shoes' owner, Ted Lewis, was a saloon car racer of some repute, Riley 1.5 among others IIRC, hence his sponsorship. But I suppose that HSCC would need someone to stump up some money for the series' title name

If I read it correctly this is going to be a one-off. Therefore why not approach one of the companys still trading (e.g. Westovers, Springrove or Osram) to see if they would be willing to put up a Trophy etc?
