Robert M. Bandini's grave

Robert M. Bandini, riding mechanic for Louis LeCocq in their fatal crash during the 1919 Indianapolis 500, is buried in Shiloh Cemetery at Windsor, Sonoma County, CA. See

The date of death on the gravestone is incorrect and should be May 31, 1919; also, the spelling of his middle name should be "Monroy" and not "Monroe."

THIS would be the appropriate thread for this item.

BTW: Can anyone prove beyond reasonable doubt whether the 1919 Indianapolis race actually took place on May 30th or on May 31st?

The 1900 California census lists Robert Bandini as my great grandmother's Guadalupe[lupe] grandson. (birth 1896) She was remarried at the date of 1900 census as her first husband a Bandini and son of Juan ( do not know which one) died. She then married a Robert Dreaper and had 3 more children of which my grandmother was one of the daughters. I had always heard that Robert Bandini was kidnapped or taken from them by his own mother and never found for many years. He was listed as staying at St Vincent's orphanage in the next census. (his mother was listed as Ruth McMahon!!!!!) Strange no one could find him--- I do not believe that he was Arcadia's grandson,but I am still researching...Thank you for letting us know where he is buried and that you knew his middle name as Monroy. My great grandmother's maiden name was: Guadalupe Monroy and is listed as sister-in-law of James B Winston and a widow in 1880 California census. She had two boys listed as Winston's nephew's, Alejandro, age 2 and Alfredo, I think 6 months... If these children were my great-grandmother's we were never told that story. Do you have any more information? Had Robert Bandini married before his death or any relatives? Thank you --GZ
