Slightly better version, John. Where you there?

Hi,
Another amazing find, I was there that day mind you only 15 at the time, I would swear that the first rider to fall at devils elbow is Martin Waton on the Aldridge 350 Norton.
I know he did fall and I know it was raining, great find.

I am not sure of the date but it was the last race of the season, Martin was OK after the fall and went to ride my Dad,s 500 as well as the 250 Bultaco that day. Martin had quite a few crashes in his few seasons in the uk but he seemed to bounce quite ok lucky for him, he is a great block and is still active back in retirement in South Africa. Was it 31st October 1965?

Indeed.
Who is it?
Is it Cam Donald in front?
And there doesn't look like there was an excess of runoff at Imola in 1972...

Le Cheval de Fer, gp season of 1974. Le Cheval de Fer
Been waiting to see that for a long time, thanks. Very sad knowing what would happen to the two main riders featured some 6-7 years later.

Agree with that Chris, a very evocative film and showing that the life of a travelling privateer (or works rider even) wasn't rosy or well paid. If you look at how few of the riders from that era made it to retirement from racing it's damn scary.Been waiting to see that for a long time, thanks. Very sad knowing what would happen to the two main riders featured some 6-7 years later.

This might be of interest - it shows some clips of Crystal Palace (stick with it to 3min14secs) followed by some good-quality footage from the 1960 TT. Along with Surtees and Hartle in the winner's enclosure, is a youthful, 3rd placed Mike Hailwood (with the ever-present Stan!).

It is Barry, thanks for whacking it up. I think we caught a glimpse on the mountain of Arthur Lavington on his KTT . Love that 50's/60's colour - the editing, not so much.

Enjoyed that. Always nice to see John Hartle on film. How about the emergency stop on the loose surface. It wasn't so long ago new motorcyclists were complaining about having to do the same thing but in a tarmac car park!
All the best

Brilliant find Geoff not only the Cadwell stuff but its all from my old neck of the woods Grimsby, Cleethorpes, Lincoln, great to see the old Humber ferries, and that old footage of Grimsby docks probably has my dad in there somewhere!!

Ahh yes, Giles Coullanges, sadly very badly hurt a couple of years ago on one of those mad French hillclimb courses, a life changing head injury, will never be the same again.
That is a modified RG500 gamma road bike, reputedly knocking out close to 135hp

Jim77 recently posted this on the 1949-1968 thread, but I thought I'd copy it here in case it'll be overlooked.
Bemsee 50th anniversary meeting at Silverstone - well worth a look !
(At 11min 32 secs in, it shows Hailwood unusually wearing a jet helmet).

I know this is not the correct thread for a moan, but I totally agree. When the all-so-similar, road-derived machines (as good as they are) began to dominate - and plain and simple capacity classes were dropped - it all went t*ts up for me!
And what's that "Shoot Out" thing in British Superbikes all about? Can't get my head around all that !
Anyway Phil - hope you have a good time at the Classic TT - that'll restore your faith !

Well , iv'e said it before , and I will say it again , 1 proddy race a day is fine .............................if I want to go and see a load of road bikes I only have to walk about 100 yards to the A38 and watch till my hearts content .
Off to the IOM , the 19th until September 2nd , doing both parades and Jurby with the tz and Nigel Rollason , it'll be good to put faces to names .............( hopefully )

If you like to see G50's and Manxes racing in the present day's Landsdown series, put "Mike Edwards G50" into the YouTube search box and you will find loads of paddock footage and entertaining conversation from the leading riders as they campaign at various circuits. Its high-quality stuff and a great insight into today's classic racing scene !

Hope you are keeping well down there in God's country.
