Second photo is Sebring and from the evidence of rear-engined cars probably 1961 - maybe the support race at the 12 Hour Florida International GP of Endurance for Sports Cars in March 1961.

My first comment was meant to be tongue in cheek, but I really should know better on TNF, shouldn't I?!?!

Splendid - I knew someone would take the bait. So that just leaves the Sebring FJ grid identities and the names and addresses of every bystander...

Well, I'll make a stab--that is Jim Hall in an Elva third from right in the front row.

My auntie Doris third from left in the back row at the far side of the most distant spectators.
I think.....

With the Sebring photo I think the car on pole (front right-hand side) is Charlie Kolb in a Gemini Mk3. The only other car I can identify is car #31 Paul Layman in a Sadler. The result of the race was Kolb 1st, Walt Hansgen (Cooper T56) 2nd, Ron Hissom (Lotus 20) 3rd, Jim Hall (Lotus 20) 4th, Pedro Rodriguez (Cooper T56) 5th, Bob Rubin (Lotus 18) 6th, Bill Wuesthoff (OSCA) 7th, Dick Thompson (Lotus 20) 8th, Bob Dusinberre (Cooper T52) 9th, Floyd Aaskov (Lotus 18) 10th.

All this assuming it is the 24 March 1960 Sebring race.

With the cars mentioned, it has to be 1961. Gemini Mk 3, Lotus 20, Cooper T-56, et al, are all 1961 cars.

Sorry - there was a loose wire between the brain and the typing finger .... should have been 24 March 1961.
The race at Sebring was a support race at the annual 12 Hour Florida International Grand Prix of Endurance for Sports Cars. The fastest lap for the Formula Junior race was Charlie Kolb in the Gemini at 3'21.0".

For an old Brit that’s real nostalgia too!!

I love that General Post Office ( GPO) Morris Minor van in the foreground. They were always painted in dark green, proudly bearing the inscription "Post Office Telephones" (Many years before "BT") and underneath that “Telephone Manager” and then the district (in Goodwood’s case probably Guildford).

My Dad worked for the GPO/BT and I was really excited the one and only day he drove one home ( Hey, I was only 6 or 7 at the time!!)—it even had the ladders on the roof!

Also it’s parked next to a nice BBC truck in their old green and grey colours…”Auntie” probably showed the first 4 laps of the Glover Trophy before whisking us off to see horses wandering around the Haydock Park paddock for an hour……

GPO vans came in red and green. The red ones were used for parcel delivery and the green ones for telephone repairs. They used to sell them off after about five years. So, if you were buying an ex-GPO van you would go for a green one as it had spent most of its life sitting by the side of the road while a red one would have put on a lot more miles.

Part number for the carby is AUD13, carb body is AUC8236, the metering needle is AUD1478 (weak = AUD1242, rich = AUD1149) needle screw is AUC2057, piston spring is AUC4387, Damper is AUC8103, Jet is AUD9098, needle and seat is WZX1100, float is WZX1300, throttle spindle is WZX1310, throttle disc is WZX1320, gasket kit is AUA66.

I will leave the rivet counting to the others. :drunk:

2 rivets - they hold the butterfly to the throttle spindle.

I assume it'll be an HS2 SU?

What is the interesting 'silvery' looking car #4 in the middle of the Sebring photo? The one in front of what looks like a Lotus 18?

Car #4 looks like an Elva 200 that has a distinctive tail fin. Vic Merino drove one in the Sebring race on 24 March 1961.

Well, I was a bit confused as Pedro drove a very shiny silver Cooper T56 (start # 9) and the only car that looks like it, had a driver with a white helmet (2nd row).
Then I remembered that Pedro wore a white helmet that weekend so it is Pedro (see arrow).
Ricardo Rodriguez was also on the grid and drove an Osca (start # 40 - see arrow). He finished 12th.

In the Sebring photo can anyone identify driver of the pale coloured Lotus 18 in midfield ??

Bearing in mind colour rendition on B&W film stock would the car be painted yellow ??

Pedro drove a Cooper t56 with a polished alloy body with a large Coke symbol on the nose. I'll find the picture ( SCG maybe)

This is Pedro in the Cooper at Sebring in that FJ race scanned from SCG. Though I cannot see the coke symbol.

From way back in post # 12, Hatrat said:

#31 Paul Layman in a Sadler.

I wonder if it was this actual car:
