Sad to see BMW out but will we finally get the chance to see Prodrive or Martin Birraine get the slots on the grid they should have been given in the last round of team selections ?

Letting one or both teams in could be one way of the FIA deflecting criticism from the EU over the deeply flawed selection process.

If it's kept as only one place up for grabs, who should get it ?

It sure as hell aint going to be N. Technology, that's for damn sure. I guess they're now regretting taking the FIA to court.

It's way too late to start from scratch now. If it's anyone they will have to take over Sauber.

Somebody will buy BMW's F1 operation. It will probably be a management buyout, with BMW still providing engines until there are new engine regulations. It will have to be a slimmed down version along the lines of Brawn and Williams. The BMW facilities are first rate. Anybody with £25 million could by a state of the art team. The hard part now is finding the major sponsors. Bring on the budget cap.

If Petronas are willing to stick around that's half the battle, someone like Superfund with their own capital could run a team at that point.

BMW will sell their F1 operations, just like Honda did, so it will be easier for a buying company to fill right in. But easier doesnt mean easy.

If I remember corretly brawn didn't recieve tv money from last year because of a name change less than 5 years ago. I wonder if going from Sauber to BMW-Sauber is a name change as well?

He won't get in. He doesn't want to use a Cosworth.

Nobody is going to take their place, because they will stay. Sauber still owns 20%.
Just as with Honda, BMW will be happy to give everything away for 1,- EUR in order to get rid off the whole operation, so don't be surprised to see a Sauber-Ferrari on the grid next year.

keep in mind,

it's different then the Honda sell=

There's not a new car yet!

A totally new entrant can still buy the entry or something like that .... on the other hand,
the possitive thing is that there's lots more time between now and the start of the new season.

So more time for possible buyers or a new team.. but no car to test in the winter or a car that's already in progress.. is difficult to sell.

Peter Sauber about the news of today=

http://en.f1-live.co...729164643.shtml

Peter Sauber on Wednesday played down hopes he might simply step back in and resume leadership of his Swiss-based Formula One team.

The 65-year-old, who sold his Hinwil-based outfit to BMW at the end of 2005, said he fears the Munich manufacturer's withdrawal from Formula One could mean the closure of the team.

"I respect and accept the decision but am still finding it hard to digest," Sauber, who retains a 20 percent shareholding of the team he founded in 1993, told the German news agency DPA.

It has been suggested that Sauber could now step back in and resume running the outfit as a privateer, but the Swiss played down that prospect.

"The position we are in now makes it very difficult," he said without elaborating. [/i]

I have a gut feeling somebody will purchase the team, since it is clearly in a better state than what the Honda assets looked from the outside last year. It has seven months to secure a place on the grid for Melbourne, and it should be given time to find a solution. However, I hope the other teams keep going, and are ready to race in 2011 if no solution is found. I really feel sympathy with all employees, who have done such an excellent job, and have now been fooled by an impatient board, who clearly doesn't know what it takes to win in F1! It's such a shame, because on balance, BMW has outperformed Honda and Toyota accumulated!

I read that FOTA are "prepared to help BMW survive".

That might make another Brawn fairytale quite unlikely. Watch Mosley.

Why would Prodrive, Epsilon Euskadi or Lola want to buy BMW Sauber?
They won't because all three of them have an up and running factory and facilities so they have not interest to buy the Hinwill facilities.
They could buy the entry though and apparently Epsilon Euskadi still wants to enter next year.
Maybe Formtech (that initially wanted to enter under Brabham) is interested in buying the Hinwill based team.
But then they bought the remains of the Super Aguri team already.
Another candidate could be Superfund but do they have the budget?
Same for N-Technology, they don't seem a very serious candidate to me.

Especially with the rules not changing as much as 08-09. It was once in a blue moon opportunity. Plus they aren't going full blast on the 2010 car either like Honda did

You read wrong. FOTA merely indicated that they will help team's employees to stay in F1 (or keep some job, etc.).

Epsilon Euskadi are interested, and they are a constructor. It is known that Barry Walsh is still looking for money in Asia to enter F1 next year somehow (that's how he got the Al Ain team for Super League), although Ultimate is not a constructor so I don't know which are their plans to build an F1 car... I guess they can make it like Campos. Let's see if Lola or Aston are still interested in 2010 F1.
