X-games Rally

So I'm watching just to pass the time and frustration of NASCAR being cancelled, and whaddya know, open wheel ace Kenny Brack is one of the competitors, AND he had the fastest qualifying time!

I know Colin McRae competed once, I don't really consider it too serious, but heck, I guess it's fun enough even for professional OW guys.

I suppose it's analogous to Kimi doing the Rally Finland.

..and Brack wins the first heat!

His competitor is X-games regular Dave Mirra, who IIRC is more known as a BMX Vert/tricks guy.

The Fiesta that Olsbergs have created is a beast of a car!

These are the cars that the team used at Pikes Peak. If we had these in the WRC, we might get back to some glory days again for the WRC!

He did a great job all day (I was there), and I think would have had a pretty good shot even if Pastrana hadn't managed to foul it up. A class act, we were all happy he won.

Yeah he still had a chance, bumper hanging off and all! I wonder if he's getting bit by the rally bug!

I wonder as to the circumstances of his participation--was he a field filler type guy with an appearance fee?

I have to admit...Kenny really surprised me... A truly superb effort considering how new he is to a rally car and taking instruction from someone sitting next to him!

That Fiesta is damn impressive though. I just got rid of the Cossie a couple of months back, having run it for fun for a couple of years as WRC kit just became insanely expensive. If I was back in the UK, I would definitely be up to M-Sport to talk about an S2000 Fiesta, the car looked superbly balanced!

Great job and now WRC coverage is going to be shown by Discovery Channel HD 1080i, which will be truly superb! That should increase rallying's profile in the US, along with this greater exposure amoungst the X-games crowd....

Nothing beats Colin sticking the car into first gear while upside down and rolling through Mid-Air though on his first X-Games appearance... that was and will always remain a legend in the event!

In this event they have done away with the co-drivers. Only some of the races had passengers, and they were actually commentators from in the car.

I have to wonder how Rally America legal those Fiesta's were. Even an engine change from the configuration run at Pikes Peak would not have been enough to make them legal, but in the grand scheme of things, it really was not a big deal. all about the show, and X-games rally sure was a show.

I think the cars were all very close if not equal in performance as it was fairly easy to see the driving style and lines are what made up the difference, not HP.

Note: handling differences may have been in effect, but not HP differences IMO.

If Ford chose to make a 4 wheel drive version of the Fiesta RS for the street... I suspect you would see a huge boom in the Rally fan car market, just like the Impreza did in the 90's.

Another manufacturer who I have never understood is Skoda! If they had created a 4x4 Fabia with the Audi/VW 1.8 Turbo lump in it, they would have sold a huge number by now, instead they went for a sport "diesel"

Just commenting on the Rally Ameria Spec cars, they are pretty powerful in the Open/Unlimited class, they certainly used to have a great deal more horsepower than a WRC car. I have not looked at this years regs to see what restrictor they are running, but the cars are probably around 400bhp. therefore I think they could detune the Fiesta to pretty much match the spec of the other cars.
