Massa has no neurological trauma what so ever and there won't be another surgery to fix his left eye orbit, it is OK. Bone trauma is healing quickly. Gerard Saillant Should check him after Mmonza and he could be back in the car by Japanese GP.

Why is he so desperate to get back this season?
Just wait 'till 2010.
If he wasn't he'd better retire.

I don't care as long as we see Kimi vs. Schumacher in Spa. Valencia can be the training round but Spa is the real test. Monza or Brazil would be a nice place for Massa comeback. Or why hurry as there is nothing to win really...No, I wanna see Michael racing in Suzuka!

I bet he wants to race at home...
I bet if he returned there people would just say he's just endangering himself and just returning for the home crowd, saving Brazil's ticket sales, like Alonso and Valencia...
No reason to return after that, only one race left, why bother?
But three races left, and one to make sure he's fine for Brazil, etc., maybe I can see it...
Only gives four races for MS's experiment, though... Not enough time to scratch an itch, but probably enough time to make the itch grow, actually...
I just hope Massa's doing the right thing... If he goes out and gets injured, there will be a lot of questions...

Do you think he likes stepping aside and watching the others from his TV?
Not to mention all silly season and possible implications.

I doubt Schumi's neck will last in race conditions at Spa.... no real test by any means, Schumi's just filling in that's allI don't care as long as we see Kimi vs. Schumacher in Spa. what kind of logic is that... of course he has many things to win, race victories are not out of reach, and with Brazil coming up why should he not come back as soon as possible? Physically and mentally getting back to racing is nothing but beneficial

I wish Massa a speedy recovery, but at the moment his date of come back remains uncertain

Not with brain injuries. An injury to a leg? yes.. but with the brain they have to be cautious. The driver could be jumping up and down shouting "let me drive" but he may not be 100% in the brain department.. and if he were to then have another crash that results in head injury, it could be much worse. He just needs time.

Its completely obvious that Massa has been lucky and has got a way with it. All reports from FAMILY, MEDICS and FERRARI have said that there is NO NEUROLOGICAL DAMAGE and he will race again. I'm aware that there have been instances in the past where the extent of injuries to drivers have been kept from the media. But I think Massas interview blows that theory to dust.
Obviously there will now be lots of guestimates as to exactly when his return will be and unfortunately until such time as he actually does race again, the doomsayers and wannabe docs will be free to offer more pessemistic scenarios to chew over.
My 'bet' is he will definately start next season.

Posted 10 August 2009 - 09:07
Only then will we know if he's the same driver or different.
The two drivers who returned from major head injuries in the recent past had vastly different experiences.
Mika Hakkinen was as good as ever after recovering from Adelaide 1995.
But Karl Wendlinger never looked anywhere near as good as he'd been before his accident at Monaco in 1994.
Here's hoping Felipe follows the former path rather than the latter.

Dissapointing if true, I would have preferred to see Schumacher race at least until the end of the season. Maybe next year Ferrari could field three cars so Massa can drive too? Massa should look after his health and not talk about driving at this point anyway.
"Maybe next year could field three cars so MS can drive too" sounds more appropriate ;)
Even though the prospect of MS racing once again is very exciting, it is Massa's seat and he will be back once he is ready.

I don't want to rain on anyones parade here, but it's a blog - by whom, and what information can he be in possession of? Does he cite any sources, or is it what he thinks based on already published news? I do not read portuguese at all.

Thank you for injecting some sense.
I think we all wish him a complete recovery and without any more delay than medically necessary.

I'm not at all offended, I was just trying to clear up a) if this is any random person and b) does he have any information or is he speculating? Finding reports from non-english media is one of the great things about this place, so you should absolutely not stop, I don't think anyone thinks that.
I'm still a bit confused by b) though, since it's a blog post and not a "proper article" - a new statement or new information would surely call for a proper article? Blog posts are useful, but it's most often opinion pieces, and not "real news". If it was a english article I could form my own opinion on how reliable it seems, but since it's not I have to ask.
You know how it can be, brazilian media say something, italian media reports that "brazilian media says that..." and when it reaches britain its "Reports from brazil and italy indicate that...", giving the impression that there are TWO sources when it in reality is a single source. That's why I'm asking if its NEW information, based on NEW interviews.

This is what I am thinking, I would understand if he had a 30 point lead in the championship, but he doesn't.
You could ask why do any of the drivers, not just those recovering from a serious injury, want to race in the second half of the season when they have no chance of winning the championship?
It could be that for the drivers, unlike some fans, competing in and winning races is more important (or at least as important) as winning the championship.

Reality check here - Massa will be back in the car as soon as he is well enough. Ferrari won't bench him for Schumi.
#37
Posted 10 August 2009 - 12:25
This might sound harsh, but I think Ferrari would like to know if Massa is still on top of it, in case they have to find a replacement for 2010, so him racing in 2009 would be a good test. Until he drives again no one is going to be sure. I really hope he returns ok by the way.You could ask why do any of the drivers, not just those recovering from a serious injury, want to race in the second half of the season when they have no chance of winning the championship?

The most common question among those who follow the Formula 1 is: when Felipe Massa will take over the cockpit of Ferrari? Outside Brazil the theme is also strong, but generates less interest due to the return of Michael Schumacher is what draws the attention now.
To be quite objective: it will not take so long for this mass return to the track. The fact no need to pass a new surgery for fixing the fracture of the left eye orbit, as Dr. Dino Altman said, will help reduce the recovery time.
Massa had no neurological injuries, the most important. The question bone progresses well, the point of not require further intervention. His vision had no involvement. More: motor and cognitive tests performed even in the period of hospitalization, in Budapest, indicate that their functions are preserved. All this led almost immediately to hospital again in São Paulo.
It makes sense to believe that after the GP of Italy, on September 13, Massa pass by FIA neuropsychological test, coordinated by the French doctor Gerard Saillant, in the Hungarian Military Hospital from Altman. And, before the pilot's been very good today, it is expected that in a month the conditions are even better.
The next step will be to the Monza GP Singapore, September 27, but is testimony night. Maybe not the most suitable for the return. But in the Japanese GP in Suzuka, a week later, on October 4, do not hesitate to believe that mass is in the grid, one of his favorite circuits, Suzuka. It would be surprising if the accident to the GP of Hungary changed its excellent time as pilot.
Thus, mass should be present in the GP of Brazil, October 18, has contested a race after the return. This is my bet.
So it would seem that this is pure speculation.

Well, this Spa duel will be something that will really catch people's attention. Schumacher won 7 or 6 times, Kimi is considered, by some, the "King of Spa", since he won there several times with Michael still racing and last year after Barcelona, it was only in Spa that Kimi showed speed against Massa.I don't care as long as we see Kimi vs. Schumacher in Spa. Valencia can be the training round but Spa is the real test. Monza or Brazil would be a nice place for Massa comeback. Or why hurry as there is nothing to win really...
Belgium GP weekend will heat up the discussion: who is better in Spa, Michael or Kimi?
Anyway, for me, the track isn't that spetacular anymore. The turns are easier, now the driver has less effect on Spa lap time compared to some years ago. That's why I wanna see Michael against Kimi in Suzuka, only 130R was changed and got easier, the other corners are intact.
