Valencia race this weekend.....

This weekend is the non-comeback of Schumacher and an absent Alonse in the Spanish country where the next Grand Prix of the Formula One circus is going to do they're parade laps.

This weekend had I believe the highest expectations of them all this season, and I must admit, even for me as well. I haven't watched all races live this season simply because there's not much to it to be honest. The races are all the same, overtaking is not done very much and there's the predictable list of winners again. But now we had two weeks of pure high intense emotions, ... Alonse is not allwed to race in his home country, which is absolutely dispicable and a real insult for the sport.

Then we had the Media hoax from Ferrari and Schumacher to raise the sales and media interest for the sport again, and at what cost? The ferrari and Schumacher fans this time, this was for me a little unexpected from them because I always thought Ferrari should never handle they're OWN fans this way they did. It gave a bad taste even for the one's who always were on the side of the reds.

Now I can tell you that this upcomming Grand Prix has nothing for me to offer at all, and I am not switching my tv on to see it or even hear it. I guess I will get the result of the race afterwards, when I get home late on sunday because there's way better stuff to do that to watch that silly track of a Valencia track..... without Alonso, without Schumacher .... yeah, sounds exciting already heh?

Well, ... luckily I can go to Rotterdam where Alonso will do a great F1 demo and hopefully he will get the support he needs there from all the Dutch REAL racing fans! I think severla hundred of thousands of people will go out to watch this, because even our own Jos the Boss Verstappen will drive an very exclusive 1001hp Bugatti (cabrio) and that's the stuff what makes a race fan thick his rickethick faster.....

There's absolutley nothing what can let me watch this weekends upcomming grand prix, while I can smell the rubber of Alonso's F1 car or hear the 1001hp Bugatti with Jos the Boss behind the wheel all live and in the nice hot open air.

Now I know many of you are zombies and will turn on the channel to watch the race anyway, not blaming you. But maybe I could suggest to use as little as possible tv's to watch this race? Like a viewers boycott for one race. Watch with your friends or family on ONE tv, instead of all of you seperadly all a tv and a tv connection of they're own. If you watch F1 with 5 friends together on one tv, this means they get ONE viewer in they're viewing statistics instead of 5. Let them feel it there, where they need it the most.

with the tv viewers becoming lesser and lesser F1 seems to become desperadly to get the interest of the fans .... Very desperadly they pulled off the Schumi-hoax comeback, and this Ferrari did to put the three-car option on the table, (let's make things more expensice yeah....smart) ....

I'm sure 80% of you here will not be part of this action, but if only 5% of you all were, that would be enough.

It's a unticlimax, given how close we thought we were to having the iconic/legend/house hould name Schumacher back to shake things up, we were very close, for 2 weeks, we had old forumers back, great threads, good fun, even Frans back to his best

Alonso fans disappointed, Schumi fans disappointed, 10000 tickets sold just for MS.
Schumacher is Box Office for viewing figures, race tickets and all for discussions.


Valencia unless it rains will be quite straight forward, only rain can spice it up.

Rain has always saved f1 from being dull. In this era of no Senna and Schumi, the last thing we honour them with is rain, may it rain.

And above all else, I still think Marc Gene should be in the ferrari seat. No one gets what they want, who's talking about the title? Cursed season. Injured drivers, injured legends, politics, domination from one team mainly.

I would rather pay to see Eddie Irvine, Schumi, Mika Hakkinen, ALesi, Mansell mix it in with young ones in race cars around Valencia, that's more exciting then f1, some cars that can overtake and old characters with new hot shots, just call it f1 takes a break, here's something in the meantime.

I just can't believe the FIA would shoot themselves in the foot and not have Alonso at one of his home races.

Now I can tell you that this upcomming Grand Prix has nothing for me to offer at all, and I am not switching my tv on to see it or even hear it. I guess I will get the result of the race afterwards, when I get home late on sunday because there's way better stuff to do that to watch that silly track of a Valencia track..... without Alonso, without Schumacher .... yeah, sounds exciting already heh?

I don't see what makes this race so appalling its not worth watching. A real f1 fan doesn't make the choice whether to watch or not based on some ex-champions presence and seeing Alonso in a midfield car, but obviously you're not one of them. I can see that the situation is frustrating for the local audience, but for me the world championship fight is more important and enough of a reason to watch. If you're that uninterested in the show you shouldn't be posting here at all.

All I can say is it's a shame you won't be able to not watch the F1 this weekend Frans!

hey hey, this includes people who do agree with me as well ya know.... Zombie isn't an insult, it's your state of being while watching the zombie-box called television. sorry if you feld offended in any way Dud. And if it would be seen as an insult, so what? It's not a personal instult, but more or less a group insult (IF it's an insult at all...). And the group is the one's who still will watch the race, pro's and anti's alltogether.

Actually a good question, especially if you don't see how I think I believ it is.... I loved formula one and it has given me a whole bunch of great and special memories, .... I have met new people, friends and enemies by following Formula one since I did in like about 1994.... since 1999 or so I found the interwebs and this forum. Atlasf1 was it called back then and this forum has been an little extra extension for me to experiance Formula one, but then the fan-based side.

Ya know, like watching races with friends of family, and discuss the events.... I found out that discussing the whole matter (F1) brings way more out of me than watching the boring modern formula one races.

This place has become a 2nd living room for me, and the topics/subjects interest me, even if the real deal doesn't anymore. It always ahs been a great sport/circus to watch and follow it, but nowadays most of the politics happen off the track and in the media. I loved the technical side very much but this is fading quickly, F1 is not the pinaccle of motorsport in a little while, they are destroying it by design.

I liked the characters in the sport, the drivers, the entire teams and all they're different approaches and philosophies on racing..... It's ... it WAS interesting. But that doesn't mean that this forum became less interesting. Like ya know, ... this forum overtook my fun in F1, from really WATCHING it itself. Isn't that weird?

Should I go to nostalgia? .... Oh well...

I would think half the battle is already won with Hamilton now believing a win is possible. Same goes for Raikkonen.

But like a relative who has gotten old, you still visit the relative in hospital, hoping for their condition to improve, F1 IS THAT RELATIVE, now and again you see a improvement(Schumi announces come back, it'\s a miracle, the relatives eyes open!!!it's ALIVE!!!!!!!), then some weeks later, it's too good to be true, Schumi rules out come back, and our relative is back on the sick bed, that's f1 these days. When it rains, the relatives condition improves, Senna and Schumi work their magic on on the world when it rains, and as it happens, f1 races are exciting in the rain, but come sunshine, no racing gods can save the world from f1's ill thought mcdonalds fast food rule service as sponsored by Max Mosely.

And that is the biggest mind vortex headach of all! IF MAX and the sport thought out their rules better< no one would be complaining as much now< they took it for granted people would tune in or show up and buy a seat< how hard is it to make cars overtake< you got all those brains< and yet no result

Also we still have one WDC on the grid should Alonso not be there, and in all likelihood a new WDC to watch. Frankly I expect them to produce a show worthy of their talents.

The guys that might dread the Valencia weekend are the FiA guys. If Alonso won't be there, that is.

I'll tell you why I think that is bollocks. I have grown up with 60s GPs (Jenks stories and great b&w photos), 70s (some nice 16mm film in colour newsreels), 80s and the beginnings of live TV, through to now.

As much as having rose tinted glasses from the flower power era can give one a sense of having seen it all, the reality is some things were much better then, some things nowhere near as good as now.

Having your favourite drivers killed every month wasn't better.
Having only 3 or 4 cars complete the full race distance at most races wasn't really better.
Winning margins usually being 30 or more seconds, often the best part of a whole lap, wasn't really exciting.

We can experience things like change which turn us right off our enjoyment of the sport. For me it was Senna deliberately taking out his championship rival and virtually gloating about it. It took me some time to come back to F1 but in spite of Schumacher's unsporting behaviour I have enjoyed witnessing some of his epic drives. His battles with Mika were truly epic culminating in the brilliant Suzuka finale in 2000. Who could relegate Brazil last year to a folder labelled less than memorable?

It doesn't mean I won't mark the F1 administration scorecard "needs to work harder more often and more consistently"! Write F1 off at your peril, it's no skin off my nose if you don't bother to watch for your own reasons. Fans come, fans go.

Last time I counted, it would be 2 WDC's without Alonso or Schumi.

Schumi's return would have been fascinating, but I was really relieved when he retired originally. These days the drivers are more likeable, the coverage is a lot better, and the championships are closer.

Valencia is a horrible track but it's a must-watch surely...

Vettel? Has he lost it or still got it?
Brawn - have they taken a step back?
Jense - will he fight or moan?
Rubens - what will go wrong this time?
Kimi - will the real Kimi turn up again?
Lewis - another win?
Webbo - can he gain points over Vettel and Jense?
Red Bull - can they develop?
Grandjean - any good?
Alguesuari - can he stay cool at home?
Badoer - will a Ferrari be last?

The whole thing is brilliant, we should thank our lucky stars. And Fernando will drive, no doubt at all IMO.

Frans, I don't want to be your Kato, diving up in any corner to confront you, but I can't help it, because again you amaze me. If you were not planning to watch the GP in Valencia... why did the return of Schumacher bother you so much? Or when you only planning to watch because Schumacher came back (so you could get angry)?

Mind you, you are not the only one. There are more posters on this board who are telling us all the time THEY are not interested in F1 (anymore), but are very opinionated about what we should think about it.
