I remember flagging at Shell In at a VSCC meeting at Oulton Park - probably one of the handicap races - gave a blue to a 4.5 ltr blown Bentley as he was about the be mightily harassed by the full race Morgan 3 wheeler - trouble was he could not see the Morgan as it was below the sight line of his mirrors - somehow they both managed to get round the corner OK and the Morgan passed the Bentley round the outside of the banking, so at least for a fleeting moment both drivers where at about the same level.

Being VSCC drivers I did get a thank-you wave from both of them on the slowing down lap.

More than weird, or safe. Though clearly they are normally winged Sprints as all bar one have the wing tree still attached.

That track is what is known as Slick!

According to the comments with the video, the sprintcars removed their wings to even the race up, although with no downforce, they were finding it really hard to get traction and drive through the turns.

Ron Thorp used to run a '32 Ford roadster in sports car races c1960...

Warwick Farm, Bathurst etc. He later bought an Aston Martin DB3S.

Possibly sillier, if not as obvious, was the Barracuda Ford which ran in the same races as Lotus 23s and even the Matich SR3 IIRC. It was built on a 1934 Terraplane chassis and running gear, including the cart springing, and sported a Y-block Ford engine and the body built for the car when it had a Hudson engine pre-war.

Three Formula Vees ran in a 10-lapper at Warwick Farm in which the 2.5-litre Tasman cars headed the field. And a couple of years later the few FFords around ran with the same cars and a tangle between Kevin Bartlett (Mildren Alfa) and Garry Rush Elfin 600FF) saw both cars damaged.
