I am working on a history of the Milwaukee Mile and find reference to a race event from August of 1929 involving African-American drivers at a track in Milwaukee. The only reference I can find to it are previews articles in the Chicago Defender. I find no results.

Does anyone here have any info on this event or perhaps any others held at the mile in West Allis (the Milwaukee Mile)?

The Milwaukee Sentinel has no revernce to it that I could fine, not surprising.

I have this book by Todd called Gould For Gold and Glory, and a PBS TV Special DVD called For Gold and Glory,
they where advertised on the Indy500 sit a few years ago....
All the races in the book 1924 to 1936 where held in the state of Indiana.
There's nothing in the book about Milwaukee.
However, I am Dutch, in far away Europe.
So tell me more...
Kindest regards

Great book. Yes the actual Gold and Glory sweepstakes ere all held in Indiana but there was a circuit of midwestern tracks that held other races for people of color. I know that at least one Milwaukee race was scheduled but I do not know if or wehre it ran. I also see mentio of a race in Madison, Wi as well as perhaps a few other around the state.
