Friends:

Since my search of "Bandini F Jr" yielded nowt, here are photos of a recently restored example at the Elkhart Lake/Road America vintage races in July. It belongs to my friend Hugh Ruthven, from Illinois. He showed it on the street in front of Siebkens then raced it the next day.

Hugh's the one walking leftward beneath the umbrella.

Lacking any contemporary formula cars (what ever happened to vintage racing?), the Bandini was tossed into the ultra-competitive FF class. I won't say that it was slow, but on one lap Hugh emerged onto the front straight with the entire field behind him. Although he appeared to be in the lead, he was actually about to be lapped. Still, full points to Hugh for staying out there and showing the crowd what a real vintage racer is!

Wha?? Are you sure? In a FFord race?? LOL. (sorry, it should be pointed out, if you didn't know, that I race Historic Formula Ford here in the UK, when my wallet allows).

I love that car of course! Did you look in my Bandini page?
I have quite a few photos and info on Bandini FJR's:

Cliff:

Great stuff!

Good to see that you already have Hugh's car there. The Schellenberger/Golden/Table Mountain photo was shot at a 1950s hillclimb on Lookout Mountain, out of Golden, Colorado. I can probably find more info on it for you, as it is just a few miles from here. Along with the similar event at Georgetown, it was one of the last Colorado hillclimbs on public roads before they were outlawed by the state governor due to a fatality.

Great to see the Bandini FJ and Hugh giving it a go with the FFs. "Down Under" here in New Zealand we race our front engined FJs with the FFs and it is far from ideal with totally different braking points, handling and speed. It is all about participating and exercising these great cars. Well done Hugh.
