No, this is not a competition!

Some years ago I ordered a slot car body from Patto in Australia and this is what arrived:

It certainly wasn't what I was expecting - I can't remember what the order was for - and I have never been able to work out what it is.

Can anyone suggest what it might be trying to be?

It looks like a copy of a toy generic race car, such as what was sold at Woolworth's in the fifties. No particular car as such, just what a toy maker decided a race car should look like.

I've had a look through a few books without any success.
Surprisingly, there aren't that many cars with a central air scoop (it is central isn't it?). The "step" in the body is reminescent of some 1930's cars when the regulations specified a minimum width and Maserati made two versions of their car - one with a wide body for GP's and the other with a narrower body for other races.

Could it be a Delahaye?

I'm grateful for all the suggestions; thanks chaps.

Regarding the Ferrari suggestion, the guy who makes these things is usually pretty good when it comes to relative sizes. Next to a 375, this thing is tiny - which makes me think it isn't a Ferrari. There is no 166 Ferrari on his list and I have his 375 so it certainly ain't that.

It definitely isn't a generic shape - that would be pointless.

He doesn't list a Delahaye on his shells list, so I doubt it is one of they.

Incidentally, I have asked the man himself and he doesn't know, either.

I think I am just going to have to let this one go....

The HWM Jaguar had a central hump like that and mirrors down low...

Could be a Gordini with the modified SIMCA engine... with lots of imagination. :cool:

Otherwise it's a blob.

Sometimes Patto makes blobs, sometimes he makes decent bodies. :smoking:

I sent the image from this thread to Patto last night. This morning a reply tells me it is, in fact, a 1952 Cooper-Bristol!

Well, at least that explains the size.
