That's an easy one. It's well known that they all had an intimate relationship with Mrs. Edith Kershaw of 36, Babbington Road, Egham, Surrey. But I didn't know that Arthur Dobson knew her too and I'm shocked!

That didn't take long. Alessandro nailed it right off the bat. So much for trying to stump this group. Tony Kaye deserves a prize too - for the most amusing response. But Tony, you'll have to reply directly to Mrs. Kershaw for your reward. Yes Alan Jones did drive for Rob Walker. In fact he made his Grand Prix debut in Barcelona in 1975 in the Rob Walker entered and managed Hesketh 308 (ex-James Hunt) - the car was owned by Harry Stiller. Alessandro, if you will provide your mailing address either on line or via private msg - I will forward you a handsome (art work by Peter Helck) full-size reproduction of the original poster for the 1948 Watkins Glen Grand Prix. I was about to answer when Alessandro's posting popped up. At first I was not sure, but then when I looked at these names -- Jochen Rindt & Ricardo Rodriguez -- it suddenly hit me. But Alessandro was quicker on the trigger. And, yes, Jonesy did drive for Rob Walker!

Shame on me, the Stiller car - I should've known that! But the best clue must've been Gary Hocking - he didn't do an awful lot of car racing, did he?;)

Gary Hocking was Rhodesian although he was born and brought up in Wales. He won the 350cc and 500cc World Championship for motorcycles in 1961. I don't have a definitive record of how much four-wheel racing he did but I don't believe it was a lot. The Rob Walker team really thought they had a major "find" in Hocking. He had been recommended to Walker by BP and Rob decided to give him a try out in the three-race South African season in December 1962 with an eye to possibly running him in the '63 GP season. Hocking made a big impression in the Rand GP at Kyalami - finishing 4th after a race long duel with John Surtees. Six days later - on December 21 - he died instantly in the Lotus 24 at Devil's Leap corner in practice for the Natal GP at Durban.
Rob Walker, who had not made the trip to South Africa with his team, never met Gary Hocking.

That was a pretty neat little "quiz" and had me staring at the screen until Rindt & Rodriguez jumped out at me and then the Hocking & Rolt names confirmed it. When was the last time Eric Thompson was mentioned around here? Or Arthur Dobson?
