Is there a driving game or sim with cars such as the Ferrari 512S, 312PB, Porsche 917K, etc. - the great cars from the late 60's to the 70's? A while back I saw a screenshot or youtube of the #11 NART long tail 512 and would love to try it. Any thoughts or ideas would be appreciated. Thanks! AT

There is a 917 add-on for GT Legends.

Try Supercar Challenge for the PS3.

See here: 250TR even posted on GTPlanet

The game features such classic notables as:
512S
512M
250TR
250GTO
250LM
330 P4

Thanks folks, that was what I was looking for. It looks like I need a gaming PC and PS3 to go along with the Xbox I already have. Forza3 is great as I love Le Mans and the '64 GTO, P4 and 333SP among others. I still like Grand Prix 4 the best and wish Crammond would do a fifth version. I'm looking forward to the F1 game for the Xbox coming up from CodeMasters

I still enjoy Grand Prix Legends. I have spent the weekend completing a few laps of the Targa Florio (48 miles per lap roughly) in a Ferrari Dino.
I would love to do it in real life but I would probably kill myself.

In my opinion, when it comes to racing games, the biggest advantage the PS3 has over the 360 is that you can easily plug in one of these:

It was really the one deciding factor for me last year when I was going back and forth. And of course if you have a G25, you can hook it up to your PC as well. Now that the G27 is out and the PS3 slim is on the market, both the PS3 & G25 can be had for quite a bargain.

Intel based Macs can run these programs if you load Windows. Might be easier to buy a cheap Pc instead .

I am still of the opinion that any parent who buys their child a Mac is guilty of child abuse. :)

i'm gpoing to try rfactor soon just to try the 917 mod. Only problem is i'm more of a keyboard player and I don't think a 917 can be driven like that.

Think there was also a need for speed that had the 917 in it too available on the PC. Not sure if that was any good though

No it can't be driven with keyboard. Or rather shoud not be...

By teh way, my mates from simracing club were taking part, on October 24th, in FULL TIME SIZE realtime online 24 hours race on Lemans 1970 track. With driver swap and all of that.

I was set to take part, but had to give up due to real life commitments. I still regret it but I will take part in it one day

Oh and finally... Stay away from anything with 'need for speed' badge. It's completely different discipline. A low one.

My vote for rFactor and csgt WSC70 mod (as linked above). As well as the 917K/L and 512S you get 3 litre prototypes (908, 312P, Alfa 33, Matra Simca), and also 2 litre cars that are great fun to drive (Chevron B16, Porsche 910).

I also had sim-race league mates racing the 24hr WSC 70 race, 4 drivers shared the car, they came home 5th overall (1st 3 litre) in a Ferrari 312P.

Within our league we often do shorter "enduro" events for a 2.4 hour races with time factor set at x 5 (Sebring 12hr) or x 10 (LeMans 24hr), so you get day -> night transitions. One driver per car. Normally 25 - 30 cars. Recently we have used modern rFactor LMP/ GT2 mods, next time we are using WSC70 mod.

That is fantastic! I went to the rFactor website to see if there were any examples of the 312P with no luck. Any YouTube-like videos or screen shots of the 24hr WSC 70 race you were just in?

My sim-racer league mates were racing in the 24 hr, not me. They have posted comments back on our forum but no screenies or videos.

Suggest you check the web site (French): www.l2rteam.com. Or seach youtube for "rfactor WSC 1970" etc.

P.S. rFactor also has several versions of LeMans, including very good 1977 and 1979 versions. No chicanes :-) Search at rfactorcentral.com.

to Souffle - Grand Prix Legends has 1960s formula one cars, like the Ferrari 312. The thread has been discussing sports prototype cars ("... such as the Ferrari 512S, 312PB, Porsche 917K")

one quick question. If I install the demo version of rfactor can I add a mod to that or do I need the full version first ?

I am really interested in this and would rather start off with this mod than learning the base version and then having to learn this all over again when I change cars.

Think i will get a 360 controller to start with then move onto a G25 when I get more time and money

http://forum.racesim...mp;d=1254431660 (F330 P4 on the 44 mile, 500+ turn Targa Florio) ; also the 1965 Ferrari Dino as well as the '66 Dino 2.4Ltr., the '70s Ford GT40, Lancia, and the Cortina's and more coming.

I believe the P4 and Dino are just skins for 1965 / 66 / 69 GPL Formula 1 cars. Whereas rFactor WSC70 mod is a real multi-car prototype and sports car mod. Although Targa Florio for GPL is wonderful.

IIRC "demo" version is the complete game, but you can only use for 30 mins unless you buy the unlock key. IIRC the "complete" game is the game engine + around 4 default car types + around 6 default tracks, some real (Northamptonshire = Silverstone), some fantasy. Then you download and install various community-built mods and tracks, start at rfactorcentral.com.

If starting with WSC70 mod I suggest you use the 2 litre Chevron or 910. Sweet cars. Slidey-style :-)

For a starter wheel, also consider Logitech GT5 or ebay etc for a cheap Logitech Momo Racing or Logitech Driving Force GT. See "Multiplatform Wheel" thread.

Good luck getting any game to work on Windows on a mac.

Most of these games barely work on a dedicated Intel windows device without days of downloading and patching.

The 512S is in Ferrari challenge, but it's poorly done.

The point to historic cars is to race on historic tracks.

The SCGT r-factor mod looks impressive.

Here's some (rather poor) video taken of two on-line races with Supercar Challenge for the PS3, using the 1967 Ferrari F330 P4.

1. Riviera Track (developer's own design) from 'dash' view in the rain. Some rather sloppy driving on my part. I'm I'm sorry the color came out so poor. I'm using an old camcorder.

2. Mont-Tremblant from bonnet view. This taken from another participant. He was somewhat disgruntled. :)

A new patch is supposed to be out to help with some of the on-line lag issues.

it seems you are not really into sim community, are you?

there is modding group that has been building sportscars mod for grand prix legend, the work begun in 2004 and it is near finish, I think chrismas 2009 will be lounch date

If a GPL sports car mod is released for Christmas 2009 this will be a pleasant surprise. Perhaps you can add a link to some more information?

Until then Grand Prix Legends has 1960s formula one cars, like the Ferrari 312, and not sports prototype cars ("... such as the Ferrari 512S, 312PB, Porsche 917K")". I don't think a couple of GPL skins for GT40 or Ferrari Dino count.

Thanks.

For GPL CanAm mod there has been very little RSC forum action since 2008.
For GPL Cortina mod the maker posted in RSC forum in Oct 2009 "quite busy atm so its no priority right now and will not be soon."
For GPL 66-67 sports car mod there were some WIP screenies in Sept 2009, but nothing posted recently on RSC forums about a possible release date. Perhaps WorldChampion you can tell us where you found the information "I think chrismas 2009 will be lounch date ?

Just thought I would post a Link to this YouTube Video of the last few laps of a wet race at Monza in a 1971 Ferrari 512M.

Supercar Challenge for the PS3 / G25 / Bonnet view.
