The problem would be that it would be a good idea for Schumi to do the rookie test. And although he hasn't driven an F1 car "properly" I really dont think he qualifies as a rookie.

The wierd thing is that it sounds like he would be fit to drive in Bahrain.

I can sort of see what Ferrari are saying about Schumi though. What happened to ticket sales we all thought he might return?

If there aren't 26 cars on the grid and Schumi has no contribution to the WCC points then I have no problem with it. Seeing him race again

The question that pops in my mind since the beginning of Luca's 3car campaign is why now ? and why for schumi ? afterall he's supposed to be one of the main factors that pushed the german to retire.

This was never proven, and while I assume LDM would be part of such discussions, directly or not, I don't think it's entirely straight forward subject. Michael doesn't need money, and had there been bad blood between those two, I don't think MS would be seen around Ferrari paddock as much.

"I want to be a little more general: I spoke about the possibility of a third car, but I didn't say that Ferrari needs to have three cars," he said. "I'm well aware of the objections coming from the small teams. I was talking from the point of view of the interest of Formula 1 and of potential new entries in Formula 1.

"The third car could also be helpful for young drivers, to let them grow. It's not right that a boy, who has never driven in Formula 1 starts into a race without training and tests. Here's the idea: I would happily give a Ferrari to an American, German or Australian team and let the car be managed by them.

"They would definitely spend less than if they had to build a car on their own from scratch. They could hand it over to a talented and strong driver or try it with a young driver with a certain potential.

"I told Domenicali to work on the possibility that some teams, like ours, could hand over cars to other teams."

Wish he would let this stuff about Schumacher go

If he wants to turn one of the legends of the sport into a Luca Badoer figure trundling around at the back of the grid he is going the right way about it, hope this Schumi comeback nonsense ends soon

Haha what do you say now about the Schumacher comeback nonsense

Customer cars is the way to go, not three car teams.

Luca is on the money here.

LdM said with a third car Michael would be driving for Ferrari now. Which is probably true. What an exciting line-up that would be: Alonso, Massa and Schumi in the same team!

The reason Massa's testing times remain undisclosed is that they were rumoured to be three (!) seconds faster than Rossi. Case closed

LCDM is speaking utter rubbish here. Yes Luca - I believe you that you will hand over your 3rd car to other teams to manage and hence have a chance to explore it technically.

I can't believe how naive Luca thinks the general public is. Teams go running to even grab broken pieces when their car crashes , just to prevent competitors from grabbing a peek at their design/tech. But our Luca is so benevolent that he will let other teams have a complete Ferrari F1 car under their management.

Fantastic :rotfl:

The fact that he preferred Massa to Schumi for a Ferrari seat baffles me.
MS had to move to Merc because LdM told him that Ferrari had no driver slot for him.

What is he expecting? Massa to perform as good or better than Schumi?!? That's :drunk: :stoned:

If I were LdM, I'd have replaced either of Massa or Alonso with Schumi.

Remember that Alonsos first move was to request details about Schumachers contract? I do not think that LdM preferred Massa, he could not have both Michael and Fernando.

LDM already had bent over backwards to get Alonso... why would he annoy the hell out of him by buying Massa out of his drive to get Schumacher in??

Makes no sense guys.. it just wasn't possible..

Two Alpha males in a team are not really effective, we have seen that in 2007. Now, we have also seen that Massa is able to 'cause surprises, but I think the presence of Schumacher would have made it difficult for Alonso to make it 'his' team and for the team to build itself around him. I also think Santander wouldn't have been too fond of the idea. Plus I think Michael would never do this to Massa.

But would Schumacher have even gone to Ferrari if the seat was offered? One of the major draw cards for Mercedes was the fact that he'd be working with Ross Brawn again.

And one of the major draw cards for Ferrari was that it was his team, his people. I think he would have gone to Ferrari if it had been a possibility.

Jean Todt and Ross Brawn left like he did, had those guys been there, only then I think he would of ignored the mercedes re-entry or maybe he would of went anyway, a new challenge., ferrari is no challenge like it was when he started with them, people come and go, Michael's team has gone in terms of a crew he worked hard for.. But no one ideally can predict MS that well, because he shocked all of us last year in coming back/aborting, then coming back with mercedes, he's goes for challenges that sometimes is the opposite of established expectations on what he's expected to do, even ferrari president said, this is a new schumacher, when he was on the telephone with him letting him know about the mercedes deal, it spooked Luca and some fans.

But would Schumacher have even gone to Ferrari if the seat was offered? One of the major draw cards for Mercedes was the fact that he'd be working with Ross Brawn again.

Filling in for Massa is one thing, but would a long term drive in a 3 car team been his ambition? I think the combination of working with Ross along with the fact it is Mercedes that brought out Brawn, and Mercedes that got Schumacher into F1 was a draw and combination ferrari president couldn't compete against.

Had Ross Brawn never left ferrari, then maybe Michael would of stayed, but this return of Mercedes was like a new challenge. Coming back to ferrari to win some races, maybe another title, what would that do, nothing he hasn't already done for himself and them. Mercedes world champion and his career coming full circle with them, seemed a fit and Brawn there means he is no stranger in a new world completely. And I don't think Michael wants to be responsible for pushing Massa out, it's not that important to him, that he comes back pushing a friend out, wouldn't seem right, and Alonso is a long term thing and I think Michael knew that ferrari had a good momentum for the future and it just wasn't right for him to step back with new driver signings of Alonso and Massa raring to drive again, Luca knows this, so 3rd car was the only thing Luca could do to keep MS happy, but the way MS drives and works, he needed bascially ferrari starting all over again in 1996, that was a challenge, they hadn't won for a while, which now is the case for Mercedes, 50 years!

If Michael wanted to come back full time before they signed Alonso, maybe just maybe it would of happened, but I don't think they expected Michael to be back at that late stage of the season, so I think there is just frustration in that Demonzelmo triggered this awakening of Schumacher in the short term, but just couldn't do anything in getting him a long term drive, especially after getting Alonso, the ALonso deal was done way earlier I believe as well. So Luca on one hand is likely pleased for MS in coming back for the sport, but annoyed it couldn't work out with ferrari, this lure of Mercedes and Brawn along with current ferrari drivers arrangements and established future had been set, it was not meant to be, a year ago anyone thinking MS would come back would be laughed at,

Luca probabley still wants to do this 3rd car thing in case Rossi wants to do f1, they see him as a potential champion.

Ferrari have the trouble of 2 many drivers lol

It's interesting that Michael has never sed a word about 3rd car ferrari idea, we only heard it from ferrari. I do think he was dissapointed in not having a drive in massa's seat last year, it was perhaps his last chance in a ferrari, whether or not mercedes was in his head then, who knows, but it probabley was for the best, that was a very short window to prepare against huge expectations. Again alot of people want to try and predict his thinking, but MS has remained private regarding would of kept him at ferrari, and that will always remain speculation, but we all have ideas. Michael's ferrari spilit up after 2006, Ross Brawn wanted a new challenge, Michael needed a rest now we realised, then came back new challenge, Jean Todt moved on to a new challenge in the FIA, it's the new challenge time again! :smoking:
