Agree - given it's about what happened in the 00s only, it seems an odd list to me. Last couple of years and (from some of the reasoning) potential for next few years seem to have influenced things which, IMO, isn't exactly right. That's a little weird and a bit too focused on what happened the last 2 or 3 years.
To me that means Alonso is in 3rd where he should be 2nd. Kimi should be a lot higher (3rd or 4th). Hamilton in 3rd or 4th, rather than second. Vettel should be a lot lower. Kubica possibly shouldn't make it in.
I'm also unsure about Massa's place - only 2 decent seasons (07 and 08 - and 07 wasn't exactly spectacular) in the 00's should not qualify you for a top 10 spot IMO.

Bigger apologies all round, least of all to CS and DP and JL. Sent my new order to the office, but they are all on hols and who can blame them with the work they all put in throughout the year. They are heroes at ALL hours of the day with, for example, Australian MotoGP and Sao Paulo F1 on the same day.
For the record, MY order is as follows so please look at it this way...:
1 VR
2 S Gib
3 Stoner
4 Lorenzo
5 Hayden
6 Pedrosa
7 Capirossi
8 Biaggi
9 MM
10 KRJR
People who were 11th included McCoy (won the first race of the decade) and Kato. Maybe OJ?
In Buenos Aires for the Dakar at present so no hols for me.
Happy New Year everyone.

That's a little weird and a bit too focused on what happened the last 2 or 3 years. Had they swapped Kimi with Seb it'd be okay.
JPM should be there too somewhere.

I was joking about it a bit carelessly, because that list is so absurd that it was very difficult to believe it was done by a pro. Häkkinen in fron of Kimi, after only two lackluster seasons in the 00's. Ok, one decent and one crap. Massa in front of Kimi after only one impressive season (08) and... well, the ONLY thing right with that list is Schumi as #1, that is indisputable. For those doubting the list exists, here is the top...
Worth point out that the list appears to be the opinion of Tony Dodgins alone rather than the whole team.
Or am I missing something here?
I just say this: Great list, spot on!

That is good, although I would put Capirossi and Biaggi as 4 &5, ahead of Pedrosa. They both drove many magnificet races during the first part of the decade.Oh Gawd.... I know. Stoner so low. I wrote it in a hurry as usual journo panic on deadline...did VR in 1st and then Gibbers because was concentrating on the 990s...then wrote the other 8, so bit of a mess by me for which I apologise.

I don't see how you can place any of the other drivers ahead of them. Of course it is a subjective opinion - but it is strongly supported by statistics as well.
In the recent couple of years imho clearly Lewis, Kimi and Fernando have been the top-3. Perhaps not surprisingly these seem to be the ones with the most fans.

I don't think Edwards has shown merit to be included, he was good in Superbike, but proved that MotoGP was indeed a step beyond. Melandri is just too inconsistent, and has never threatened anyone for a title. I think Hayden and Roberts should be above Lorenzo and Pedrosa. Yes, Jorge and Dani may ultimately prove to be better, but until they win titles, they're just not worthy of being put up the list. Roberts won a title in text-book style on a 2-stroke 500 (which I think is more of a feat that what Stoner or Hayden managed), and Hayden won when everyone else choked. It was one of only two off-years for Rossi in the decade (the other was 2007), and when everyone else had the golden opportunity, they stumbled. Hayden didn't, and won a title as a result. He also beat Biaggi in 2005 when he was his teammate.I'd guess most of the riders laughing at Max would be lapped by him if they ever managed to get on the same grid. If his 500/Motogp career hadn't run into Rossi's he'd have a couple more titles to go with his four 250 ones.
How about:
Rossi
Stoner
Biaggi
Lorenzo
Pedrosa
Gibernau
Hayden
Capirossi
Barros
Roberts
But I want Edwards and Melandri there, too.
I don't think Barros is really deserving of consideration, as he was worthless at developing a bike (see his season at HRC), and couldn't win from the front (Schwantz said it at the start of his career, and it was true until the end).
There may only be a justifiable Top 9 this decade in MotoGP.

Here's my attempt at doing one:
1. Ferrari F2002
2. Ferrari F2004
3. Ferrari F2001
4. Renault R25
5. Renault R26
6. Ferrari F1-2000
7. Brawn GP BGP001
8. McLaren MP4-15
9. Ferrari 248 F1
10. McLaren MP4-20
It's difficult not to pick all 10 winning championship cars, but I slotted in the 2000 and 2005 runner-up Macs, and the 2006 runner-up Ferrari ahead of the winning car for Ferrari in 2003 (which had little over Mac and Williams) and the winning cars of 2007 and 2008 where we practically had a tie between the Ferraris and the Macs.

Definitely. If there was going to be a top 10 list for most exciting genres of the sport, then motorcycle road racing would have been the best this decade. While MotoGP has fallen off after the move to 800cc, WSBK has re-emerged as barely controlled mayhem, and the 250s have been absolutely terrific race-in, race-out.Good god man, watch some motorcycle racing. How can he rate the Renault R25 as 3rd best car of the decade when it spent most of the season being much slower than the Mclaren. The F2001 was just as reliable and much faster relative to its competition that year, not to mention a lot of other cars. The Brawn should be 3rd. Its level of dominance in the hands of two ordinary drivers prove it was one of the very best ever, let alone this decade. When judging cars both drivers performances must be included, and according to Mr Dodgins, a talented and well established driver like Fisichella, could only manage 60 points, 5th in the Wdc, and 3 podiums in the 3rd best car of the decade.

5. Jenson Button
4. Sebastian Vettel
3. Fernando Alonso
2. Lewis Hamilton
1. Michael Schumacer
The Autosport top 10 is worse than I thought it would be. Where to start?
Hamilton has no business being ahead of Alonso on this list as he has acheived far less this decade. Alonso was the driver who stopped the domination of Schumacher, he won 2 titles and 21 races, thats much more than Hamilton achieved. Autosport clearly based their ranking on personal driver preference and believing Hamilton is better than Alonso. Thats debatable but thats not what this poll is about.
Button has no business being 5th either. He only won 1 race the entire decade until the final year when had a dominant car at his disposal. He also spent too much of the decade getting beaten by team mates.
Kubica at 9th is terrible. He hasnt even beaten his team mate during the decade and only 1 race. Whats he doing there?
There's some drivers left out who I thought should be included though - primarily Rubens. He was on the podium over 60 times this decade, came closer to Michael Schumacher in equal machinery than any other driver, and put up a credible title challenge in 2009 - indeed for the second half of the season he looked better than Jenson. Also where is Montoya? He won 7 races in two different teams, and had some great drives. He should be ranked ahead of a lot of those drivers listed. This seems to primarily be a

James Allen's list is much more to my liking. It seems much less influenced by recent history that the Autosport list. He also includes JPM and DC, which I think is needed. Both drove some great races, early in the decade for DC, mid-00s for JPM.
1- Michael Schumacher
2- Fernando Alonso
3- Lewis Hamilton
4 -Kimi Raikkonen
5- Felipe Massa
6- Juan Pablo Montoya
7- Rubens Barrichello

- Webber scored points in a Minardi, but what elese did he do that had any impression over the decade? The one time he had a very good car, he got beaten fair and square by a guy who just got out of his diapers.
- how many races did Barrichello not win with the best car of the grid? How many times was he stomped and shamed by his teammate (including Button, for Christ's sake)?
- DC had two good seasons in 2000 ad 2001, but he was also so far away from the bar, not to mention some horrible seasons. Raikkonen was driving circles around him in the end, 2008 was a 12 month crash fest, and on and on. I don't think what he did had any lasting impression upon the decade.
So, basically, to make it to the list, having some sort of lasting impression is a requirement and I can think of ten other guys who were better at that than those three.

It is supposed to be a "best of the decade" list . Then, how come Mika is two places ahead of Kimi? How the hell is Kimi 8th if Vettel is 4th? Button 3 places ahead of Kimi? (And I'm no Kimi fan.)
Where is Montoya, if Kubica and Webber are there on the list?
Why has Webber done more than Barrichello?
I'd also put Hamilton behind Alonso (if we're talking about the whole decade, definetely.)
At least they got MS right...
P.S.: I quite like James Allen's list.
