I made myself a new year resolution to put some images of the car I have finally built and road registered on imageshack and link it to this forum as the kind help I received here greatly helped in getting it done.

I am not claiming it is the last word in design or build quality but at least I did it all myself including most of the bodywork and the spraying.

I weighs about 1030KG and has a 7.8 litre Chevy big block with 600 bhp on the dyno so at least it goes quickly ( albeit with too much wheelspin at present). The roll hoop and side rails are from a C4 corvette as are the suspension links and the rear axle. the rest is honeycomb aluminum and tubes etc.

This is my first use of imageshack so I am afraid I do not know how to post the images full size!

err I can't get imageshack - can you link it elsewhere or send it to me please, I am genuinely interested to give you crap and make you feel bad about it.

Photobucket is excellent by the way.

Nicely done  I find threads like this inspirational.

Congrats Mariner - that thing looks loud and fast - I'd love to drive if not own it. BTW what's that brown thing on top of the motor - where the injection should be?

The brown thing is just the gauze over the Holley carb after a backfire (!). No wimpy injection here just a simple old 850cfm Holley. That is why I had trouble with the UK SVA test emissions. Solved in the end by advice on this page about adding ethanol to lean the mixture out ( fixed jets) and rapidly buying and selling a full gas analyzer on ebay so I could fiddle with the four idle screws and the idle RPM to overcome what is pretty lousy mixture distribution at very low revs. The thing pased the CO limit on one bank but not the other until I fiddled. Fortunately the UK SVA lets you grandfather the emissions level back to the engine age which is accepted as the block date (1991 in this case).

One of my winter jobs is to build a full K+N fliter into the bonnet/hood so I can get better filtration than the open system used now. Also as I expected the cooling is marginal but I have thicker rads coming for my birthday so I hope I can keep the side rad layout as it has several advantages.

Not the gauze - the brown thing between that and the engine - a holly what you say? I don't think you should feed your engine holly - even at Chistmas - and I'm sure holly would be very low on carbs anyway.

Cool, by the way, is that an Elise rear end? Bonnet is E-Type'esque.

Gosh you are all very observant! Yes the rear end is basically an Elise rear clamshell which I cut in half and added a 100cm centre section to match it to the width of the car. The centre of the bonnet is a lightweight E type bonnet (hood) moulding to which are grafted the outer bonnet areas on each side plus I moulded and bonded the side peices behind the front wheels. The nose is fabricated rom aulimium with a honeyconb splitter. The "doors" are home moulded, thye do not actually open as this saves a lot of weight and roadworthiness test (SVA) conplexity. The car is low enough that you can just step over and in.

Starting with the Elise and E type peices saved a lot of time and I used moldless construction on the bonnet side areas with GF skin over foam.

At 600hp per ton I would be asking whats the brown stuff on the drivers seat.

Not to mention the torque - I said NOT to mention the torque!!

Now that you've mentioned torque - how would you rate it - torques per ton? Mariner's car would have more of those than an F1.

Looks good mariner. But why did you fit 1900 technology for fuel handling? (actually that is a bit of a funny one, I have a strong suspension that IC engines had something more like throttle body fuel injection before they had carbs)

Is that for real? You mean 10cm (100mm) don't you?

Oops, I did indeed mean 10cm not 100cm ,now I know why the wheelbase/track ratio is so odd!!

Why did I use 1900's carb technology and not FI - money, money, money. Because the UK SVA allowed grandfathering of the emissions to the engine date of 1991 I only had to get down to 3.5% CO and 1200 ppm HC which a carb. can handle. That saved about £4,000/ USD7,000 in equipment and dyno test time etc. so an easy decision.

Incidently the SVA is now dead ( as of May 2009) and the UK now has the IVA which imposes a lower noise limit ( 98Db vs 101Db) and much tougher cockpit protrusion regs etc.
