Thank you I just made the change.1970 was the only year that Posey drove the Autodynamics Dodge Challenger in the Trans Am. Sadly, the glory days were already over by 1972.

Can't say I have ever seen pictures of Marlboro looking like that. I think that based on the letters between the STP logos on top of the hill (CDR) and what look like 55 gallon drums alongside what appears to be a racing surface, that the venue is actually Continental Divide Raceway in Colorado

Hi, thanks for this link as it has lead me to the elusive second page of the 1966 Marlboro Trans Am Official result (edit) although now I see that it is almost the same as the one I have but I believe it to be actually from the following race. So where did your result list come from, particularly finishers 16 to 33. And if you have a copy of that official SCCA page can you share it with me please.
Ciao

Hi Ken,
If you are interested, i can email you a pdf copy of the original race results. Please understand, they are a little hard to read since they hand typed, photocopies of the originals circa 1966-1972; inked in corrections and all. None the less, they are very informative and crucial when documenting a car!
What car are you researching? I may have some info on it. I have been researching my car and often stumble into images of other cars at the same races.
Thanks,
Clay

Hi Clay, yes I would like a PDF copy of just the Marlboro 1966 results. I have the rest including the Marlboro but missing page 2. I'll e-mail you.
I am interested in Alfas in the Trans Am. And while I do have lots of info and Pictures on my own Trans Am Alfa GTA, one never knows were and when news will arrive.
Did you see my post above about my Alfa GTA #42 next to a Volvo on the grid at VIR? She is Alfa Romeo RHD GTA Corsa s/n 752507, raced in 5 different T/A years, 33 T/A races, 7 wins in class, many 2nds and 3rds, raced at Sebring in 1966 and Riverside in 1972.
A couple of things I am looking for is some documented confirmation that Peter Schuster drove #25 at the Watkins Glen T/A in 1971 while Everett was on the #2 Wetson/Kwech GTV and interior pictures from 1972 and other years.
I have attached a photo record of her livery over the years and a recent paint grind on the RH Rocker panel revealed 18 coats of paint and primer, all of which agree with the know livery.
Thanks
Ken
Paul Richards and George Alderman drove RHD Alfa GTA 752507 #42 in 1966, (she was #32 only at Marlboro 1966)
Gaston Andrey drove RHD Alfa GTA 752507 #25 in 1969, picture taken by Ken Lee at Mont Tremblant (#52 only at 1969 Bridgehamton)
Gaston Andrey and Bert Everett Drove RHD Alfa GTA 752507 #25 to 4 wins in 1970 when Alfa won The T/A U-2 Championship
Bert Everett drove RHD Alfa GTA 752507 #25 in 1971

Great thread, lots go good info, thanks all for posting. Im looking for information & photos on a car that raced in the 1970 transam season for a couple of races in that season. I only have 2 photos of this car, See the photos below, it is Robert Hampton's 1968-69 Barracuda. I am wanting to build a model of this car. Does anyone have any further photos they can share? Any idea what colour the car was? Any help would be great. If you know any other 68-69 Barracudas that raced please post.

Visit My Website
On my quest to find more images I came across this great group, joined their league and sorted through some 1233 pages of images. I am currently on page 527! Although the majority of them were taken only a week or so ago; a few stood out. Check out page 222-223, there are two images of this event that took place in Brookfield, Ohio circa late 1950s called "Field Trials." I have never heard of such a sport, but evidently these guys were into driving their cars balls fast around a field....WILD! But I digress. More important to our cause, there were some great period Trans/Am photos that surfaced.

This must be the car driven by Gerald Robinson according to the results - Hampton was the owner?

Yeah its all very confusing. Yes you are right though, it is in fact Gerald Robinson. He raced in Race 2(Lime Rock), Race 3(Bryar), Race 5(Bridgehampton) & Race 8(St Jovite) in this car. Where I got confused was Robert Hampton did race in the 1970 season in a barracuda as well but he raced a 65-66 Barracuda. Hamptons only race was at Race 11(Riverside) See page 209 of the Friedman Transam book if you have it. Photo not clear enough formodeling either.
Does anyone else have any further photos, now of either car?
This would must be the car driven by Gerald Robinson according to the results - Hampton was the owner?

Yes I would like to know if anybody has entry lists of the Laguna Seca and Riverside 2.5 Trans Am Challenge races held in 1972. I can find the results, but I can not find these entry lists. Any help would be great. Also, does anybody have photos of the West Coast Datsun 510s that raced in these two races?

Damn old memories.Hi Pickle, These are a few images that my dad took at the 1970 Road America Trans-Am. I have a few of a red 1967 or 8 Camaro but they weren't clear enough to post.
It would appear that at some point in that race, your father and I could have been standing elbow to elbow.

In 70-71 my car was white blue stripes #67, it was owned by Don Winters and he hired Leigh Gardner to drive it in the TA races. Other drivers "rented" the car in the LOL region races. In '72 Don sold the car, it was run by Dave Steffens under J&R Racing, painted white/blue/red hood and roof and had #64. Dick Kantrud, Howie Fairbanks and Carl Schaffer drove it '72-'74 TA races. I have a couple photos that I'll try to put up but would really like to see more from 70-71 if they are out there.
I know this is probably one of the pictures you have found, but for the rest of the people playing along I thought I would add this one which I found on www.racingsportscars.com .

Thanks..I have seen that one. I'd love to find some early photo's when it was still #67...before Don Winters sold it after the '72 season and it was repainted and modified to keep up with the TA rule changes in '73-'74.

Hi, great thread. Those are my photos from the 68 LRP Trans Am, glad to see them posted where they can do some good. I've run across some old programs and found this summary of the 1971 Trans Am race in the program for that year's SCCA Nationals.
I still vividly remember standing on the infield hill totally soaked while watching Tullius' amazing performance that day in the Pontiac. I owned a white TR-6 at the time and was a big Bob Tullius/Group 44 fan.
I've got several T/A programs from that era and was considering scanning them into .pdf form for posting on my website. Would there be any interest?

Here's a link to the program for the 1972 Watkins Glen Trans Am/Formula 5000 weekend:
Watkins Glen Trans Am 1972
Included is the entire program with entry list and my ticket for Fri, Sat and Sun ($12 for 3 days of racing and I think camping at the track was another $1 a day )

Here's one way of bringing some of these brilliant cars back to life.
Hi 'grumpyfish',
I recognize that car #187! Who made the model? That photo with that #187 is from Canadian club racing at either Harewood Acres or Mosport - either a Canadian Touring Car series race or maybe the sedan support race for the Mosport Can-Am.
Only 2 T/A races entered that year in that colour - Mid Ohio T/A with myself and co-driver Dick Hoffman, and later the Riverside T/A with GM racer/engineer Hoffman. Hoffman got some money from Ford to do some camera work for a Ford racing film and I have a photo of a large movie type camera mounted on a plate, rt. front corner of roof. Dick qualified and ran the race - finished 20th I think. He had already been racing a 67 camaro with Dave Horchler (H & H Racing) and was a great help setting up our car (we didn't know much).

There will be a U2L and U2.5L Trans-Am race at the Monterey Motorsports Reunion in August. The race is on Saturday right after lunch. This will be the first time these cars have had their own event at Monterey and the entries are limited to U2L cars with Trans-Am history. There are some significant U2L cars that will be racing again for the first time since the era. Two cars not seen since the era, the Winkler/Van der Vate Alfa GTA from 1966, and the Fred Baker 911 will be there.
Hi Bob,
I just got back from the VARA & Historic Champ/Indy car event at Auto Club Speedway March 5-7 in Fontana - managed to hitch a ride down and back with Eric Haga from Seattle and his Lola T 190. Was very surprised to see five 510's, seven BMW 2002s, and 2 GTVs - thought I was at an under 2 litre or 2.5 T/A race! They were all well prepared. Interestingly, VARA allows these cars to run C sedan with limted mods and a 2 bl carb - had not seen this before. Had a great time tramping around in the paddock - sure is a fancy race track - nice garages etc. Also really enjoyed some of the old Indy cars and met Tom McGriff of "Mac Miller's garage" (see website) who at one time worked on the BFG "Tirebirds" in 71 with owner Terry Godsall and driver Larry Dent.
Just might head down to Monterey again this year for those T/A cars!

Wow! Does this race report ever bring back some memories. This was our first ever visit to Lime Rock, and our first time out that year. We arrived with our "all-purpose" 3:73 rear diff ratio (useless at Lime Rock - a 4:56 or 4:88 was needed) and our almost stock 302 of about 375 hp, but nevertheless managed to qualify 24th. For us it was only important to get on the grid as the races were over 2 hrs. long. At some tracks the promoters would only take 30 or 33 cars, and often some 40+ cars would show up to qualify. We had no special qualifying tires or motors - qualifying was usually done on the left over tires from the last race.
Not long after the start of the race I came down the front straight and got "moved over" and found myself spinning down the escape road at the end of the straight. I managed to stay on the pavement and rejoined the race. This happened twice more during the race and I'm sure the car owner Al Richards was having a panic attack each time it happened.
We survived to the end and managed a 9th place finish - very good for us, almost like a podium - won $1000. Ironically, while returning to the paddock, Peter Gregg managed to cave in the passenger door, because he wasn't looking where he was driving.
During the race, while heading up the back straight in the rain, I felt 2 distinct thumps at the back of my car - couldn't see a thing out the rear window, and thought "oh God, some idiot is going to run me off the road!". I held my line, and the next thing I know, Mr. Donohue passes me on the right and gives a nod, as if to say "thanks for holding your line and letting me by". He was just letting me know he was there!
Later in the paddock, I looked at the front of his Javelin and there was not a mark anywhere on the front of his car. - amazing!
I would return there in 73 with the proper rear diff ratio in the ex Alfie Ruys de Perez 69 camaro, but we were outgunned with our little 302 which blew up about half way thru the race.
It is a neat part of the world and I managed a trip back there a few years ago for the Labour Day vintage wknd when the real T/A cars paid a visit.

Hi Robert, I made the Camaro, painting slot cars is a hobby. What a bonus to be in touch with a great driver. Hope I haven't infringed anyones copyright. I have painted a few of these but the donor cars are getting more difficult to get. I did the number 16 car first but I got the colour too dark and it wasn't right. If I can get another chassis I will do it again.

Chris

Hi Chris,
Never mind that "great driver" stuff! I was just lucky enough to get a chance to run with the "Big Dogs". That # 16 is our Sebring # in the 69 12 hr, assigned to us by the organizers after accepting our entry. It happened to be the same number that Donohue used in 68. His camaro from 68 was used on the 69 poster - an artist's painting. I have a copy of the poster.
cheers,
Robert

i am trying to correclty nodel a '67 mustang notchback as the team shelby titus car - i know it is light yellow with black accents but i am trying to determine the correct yellow that would have been used??
i have been told it may have been '67 ford springtime yellow - but that is a very pale yellow and some have debated the color on the shelby cars was a bit more vibrant
any suggestions on how to confirm what the actual and correct color would have been would be very very much appreciated
thanks very much in advance
regards, Ron

Per Shelby's Minion ...
The Terlingua Story ...
PS: The last model on this page was to have been released in March:
1967 Terlingua Mustang Model
Looks as if it's a pre-order item, and it seems authentic as to appearance:

I had a stab at the Mustang fastback and used Ford Daytona Yellow. But the picture I followed might have been taken in bright sunlight.
