I spotted this site quite by accident when I was looking for leads on a famous motorcyclist called Ted Frend who gained a gold star at Brooklands whilst riding a Series A Vincent HRD Rapide. I am also pretty sure it was he who also competed with the same machine at the Red Road hill climb that was situated between Lightwater & Camberley.
These machines were V twin 1000cc and numbered approximately 78. All were built in the period 1936 - 1939. They were the fastest production vehicle on two, three or four wheels and have become legendary. There have been numerous notable people whom have owned / competed on these machines and another that springs to mind is St John Horsfall of Aston Martin fame who rode one and gained two FTDs at the first post war sprint at Filton aerodrome.
These machines are very special and I intend to publish a "not for profit" book dedicated to them. To this end I am attempting to gather as many pictures of these unique machines as possible and so may I request that anyone who has such material contact me. If you are not in a position to scan & email pictures I can arrange this and assure you that pictures will be returned promptly. Thanking you in anticipation. My email address is blacklightning@tiscali.co.uk
