I will be there in the Formula Junior event - first round of the 2010 Lurani championship. Not sure what the weather has in store for us, but should be fun.
All the best

I wonder what level of disruption the current Icelandic volcanic eruption and resulting travel chaos had upon the meeting? I suspect it will have made travel difficult if not impossible for many competitors and spectators to this event.

All modes of transport have been somewhat oversubscribed due to the shortage of air travel.

I was there on saturday and it was fantastic.
Watching F1 cars from five decades, CanAm, F2, F3000,... absolute fabolous.
I walked the whole day trough the paddock with a big grin on my face :)

A very special highlight was the Lotus 72 in Gold Leaf livery.
Does anyone know, if this car is the rebuilt wreck from Monza 1970?
It was a magic moment to watch the car running around the track of Rindts last victory 40 years ago.

Not his last victory. Not even his last F1 victory ... :)

`Funformula`, these meetings generally have a free access all area policy so that spectators can talk to drivers, mechanics and team personnel and ask questions to anyone who can answer them. I would sooner go to these meetings and get my value for money and come home happy with a camera full of pictures that I would not be able to get at `Bernie`s Circus`. The sound, smell and total atmosphere is something else, glad you have enjoyed Hockenheim....KM

As planned, I was there on Saturday and found it a most pleasant event. Obviously, the great weather helped, too! Some book dealers with second-hand motor racing books, scale models and the like, a wide variety of cars and categories and I had the chance to obtain the two autographs from the drivers I was still missing in my Porsche 917 book, Kurt Ahrens and Jürgen Neuhaus. Now, the book has been signed by all 917 drivers who are still alive and who have either a profile chapter or a brief summary at the back. Got my book on Kaimann Formula Vees signed by Kurt Bergmann as well.

Here a link to the brief photo report I did for my Dutch website:

I was there on Friday to have a short look at what was going on...and ended up taking over 300 photos. I'd love to post some of them but for some reason is my imageshack freezing everytime I try to upload something. :(
I thought it was a bit of a strange combination of raceseries. BOSS and Interserie don't really fit to the others...

Hello "MODE",

Second picture is ERNST KRAUS (left) posing next to his former car which was in green during the Seventies. The man on the right is the actual owner mr OTTOCAR JACOBS, wearing a funny hat. On the background, with the red overalls is FRITZ KOZKA from Dresden, who drove the yellow, ex-Willy KAUHSEN 917.

Third picture is (from left to right): Kurt Ahrens (70 years today!), Porsche engineer HANS MEZGER and Mr FRAUENSHUH, former Porsche SALZBURG mechanic.

Thanks, I didn't know these Mr FRAUENSHUH and ERNST KRAUS. Some stories to tell about the 917/30 N°6 brought by Freisinger ? I liked the mix of the series and I'm a fan of the new BOSS GP serie, several drivers had to cancel their trip just before the race, it should be even better at Spa next round.

It certainly isn't. It's probably the Joe Willenpart car, chassis 4 (ex-chassis 1), driven by Reine Wisell and Graham Hill.

That would then be the Rob Walker car? Reine Wisell never raced that.

ooooooooh, it must be me getting my chassis numbers mixed up. Was it chassis 1 that suffered Jochen's fatal accident then?
Whatever, the car @ Hockenheim certainly wasn't the Rindt chassis, it was the ex-Wisell, ex-Hill car IF it's Joe W's car.

R2 was Rindt's chassis, that was understandably scrapped. There is no car that both Hill & Wisell both drove, even if you call
R1 & R4 the same car.

Which car did John Foulston own? I saw Willie Green fling it around Oulton Park in the 80's. Fabulous :)

72/4, Alan.

According to Michael Oliver's definitive tome on the 72, the Rindt chassis was being restored (in 2003) by Simon Hadfield for Italian owner, Pier-Luigi Mapelli.

(off topic)

From the best I know, Rindt's chassis wasn't scrapped, it was discovered in a garden shed near Milan in 1995 and acquired by a Rindt fan from Vienna, who is currently having it rebuilt in the UK. A photograph of the wreck in the shed in Italy can be seen on the last page of the book 'Jochen Rindt - Der erste Popstar der Formel 1' by Ferdi Kräling and Herbert Völker that was published last year. IIRC, the story of the search for the car was published in Austrian monthly magazine 'Autorevue' at the time.

I find that very difficult to believe, but anything can happen in Italy, I suppose. :well:

Edit: On another forum, Allen Brown discredits this find, stating that R3 has been in the UK for many years, and he is aware of it's location but considers it prudent not to divulge such information on a public forum. A wise decision.

I think it’s possibly that's Rindt Lotus 72 was located for some time on that place in an Italian garden.
The Moser Lola 294 was under sequestration for over two years in an auto demolition near Monza.

yes for one of them in BOSS GP, who was also entering FIA F1, mechanical or personal problems for the other ones, more entries are expected at Spa whith "interesting" new cars. I heard a story of a scotish driver who did the trip by the road at the last minute and arrived just in time to get into the car for the race. For the Lotus 72, written N° 4 on chassis plate. Talking about FIA F1 race, it was the first win of a McLaren MP4/1B, driven by B. Verdon-Roe.

The 72 in question and it's fate was the subject of this thread some while ago. At certain points it makes quite difficult reading as you might expect with from such a controversial subject.

yes, first time I saw one. They still love Formula V in germany, didn't have the time to look at all of them in details, around 30 cars, german ones for most but Lola chassis also. I will show them tomorrow with F2 and others.
