UK General Election 2010 and motor racing

With the UK about to be gripped with General Election fever ( or not ) the Daily Mail has unearthed a motor racing connection.....

Glen Kidston who won Le Mans in 1930 with Bentley was married to Nancie Miriel Denise Soames in 1925.

Following Kidston's death in an air crash in 1931 his widow later married Edmund Charles Reginald Sheffield.

They had four children, the youngest of which was Sir Reginald Adrian Berkley Sheffield.

Sir Reginald later married Lady Annabel Astor.

Their eldest daughter was born Samantha who in 1996 married David Cameron who possibly could be the next Prime Minister

Sam Cam's mum was Annabel Lucy Veronica Jones when she married Sir Reg in 1969. After that marriage broke down she married Viscount Astor in 1976; only then did she become Lady Astor.

Unless you were Barbara Hutton, although perhaps Prince Troubetzkoy and Porfirio Rubirosa weren't really "in" motor racing anyway.

How Very True.

But the contribution of each of them to motor sport history was minimal.

Didn't the House of Lords race against The House of Commons in the Shellsport Ford Escorts in some sort of charity event at Brands Hatch somewhere around the mid seventies ?

This was an annual event for many years - Richard Burden, MP for Birmingham Northfield, states on his website that he's a former winner and he only became an MP in 1992.
