Hello,

this 40 year old kit is at the moment on my workbench, I will
try to build Bruce McLaren's car in Monaco 1969 (practice).

That's the kit I built decades ago - pictured on page 1 of this thread in post #21.

That's pretty cool... I am actually amazed that anyone would still be interested in those old kits that I helped produce over 40 years ago now... The BT15 and the MATRA MS5 were my favorites. Come to think of it, the only licensed part of it was the Hewland MK9 gearbox, as Mike Hewland actually mailed me a print of what the box looked like, and I think we did a pretty good job at modeling it. :)
Those McLaren M7s look awesome!

Probably, Philippe, partly because of the quality of the kits and partly because of the slightly off-beat choice of subjects. I remember being unaware of the BT15 and MS5 until it was too late ):
I don't suppose anyone is making models these days of GP2 cars, or whatever the junior formula equivalent would be nowadays.

The last kit I remember of an equivalent formula was Hasegawa's kit of the 1989 F3000 Reynard.

Actually, Alan, both Scalextric and one of the 43rd diecast companies did make several of the A1GP cars when that series was at its height a few years ago.

A while ago, I was able to purchase on E-Pay France, a Brabham BT15 and Ferrari 330P4 partially assembled, but quite well, with only the bodies to be finished and painted. They were very inexpensive and the gentleman assembler had added a few modern implements such as photo etched belt buckles and some added wiring and brake lines. All I need now is to have the bodies painted by someone with talent, and I will get that done soon I hope... Any volunteers to help out a half-blind poor old folk with a floater the size of the Ronald Reagan in his right eye? :(

Now if i could get someone to put together a Lotus 49, McLaren M7 and Brabham F1, as well as the 512S, would that be cool... :smoking:

I've rather moved away from static kits over the last twenty or so years and I've had these in my "stores" for donkeys years.

This thread is tempting me to build them after all this time.

David

PS - Phillipe, I'm sure there would be quite a few model-makers over on SlotForum who would be able to spray your cars.

Looks like you have a rare treat (or, rather, 3) in prospect, looking at those three mint and boxed kits, David. Lucky man :)

Hi
I enjoy this very much
I like the slimline version very much..
I have a Heller Humbrol version of the kit.
I think it is a pity that Heller never realized that if they only made some very small correction on the 2 parts 40 and 41 parts of the monocoque. includ them in the kit..
perhaps with a front wing as an extra...
with additional decals, they could have made another very intresting version of this model.

Paul

Paul,
If I had stayed there instead of packing my bags for greener Californian pastures (well, in winter anyway!), you can bet your bottom dollar that i would have made that happen.
I was the only "car guy" at Heller, at the time, and was oh, still so young... sorry!

Hello T54 you have done a good job, but I am missing the fueltank and the watertubes.
Why does Heller not sell/produce the Brabham BT26A? one of my absolute favorites.

Heller was a small company with not much money, and I had to fight lots of battles just to get the models I really wanted. Also I was very young and even more naive than I am now at age 68...

The original design did not have the full frame, as the lower body panel had the tubing as integral part. Changes were made along the way, and indeed a few parts were missed in the process, such as... the fuel tank!
Please accept this as an error of a confused but enthusiastic young man...

PS: May I send you the body from my kit to paint for me please?

I would have to second that! I am now in my mid 60`s and for 45 odd years have enjoyed the "art" of model construction and detailing of 1/25 and 1/24 scale models.
As someone stated previously, the detailed assembled kit is worth less than a "virgin" kit, but not to the builder.
The finished model is only a visual asset to the one who puts in all the work---only another "head damaged" afflicted
modeller can appreciate the finished item.
I have enjoyed this link as it means there are guys out there (and girls) who use up untold hours on these fabulous "kits"
There is a few Hella models in my collection, Many thanks

I recently picked up the Heller 1/12 scale Renault RE20/23 kit and was delighted with the quality and value compared to the Tamiya issue. I've always wanted the Ligier as well but it's somewhat rare.

On a random note, why does everyone think instructions are easy? Is it just denial? I'm working on them for a kids craft kit and they are such a bear. Takes longer than any other element of the product development.

These posts regarding the 1/12 Ligier reminded me that I have that kit, believe it or not I can't find it in my model-making room after a two day search and despite the large size of the box mind you Barry can vouch for the haphazard storage system I have for all my unbuilt kits.

Just bought a Heller Martini 917 and a Humbrol Heller 917 (1970 Le mans winning car) but neither kit has assembly instructions.

My online search has not come up with anything yet. Any suggestions?

Have you had any luck yet? I built the Martini 917 (as reboxed by Testor's in the U.S.) many moons ago and by some miracle still have the instructions. Send me a PM with your email address and I'll be glad to scan them for you.
