Maybe a new thread for the actual leader board and car selection?
My best time 1:33.870.
Did a 1:32.9 but cut one of the corners (the one after hammerhead) 1 mm to much... so there is a lot of time to be found here.

My 320gb Ps3 slim and GT5 is on order, please hold out for me to get it up and running next weekend! We going to set a date for final time and replay submission? How does 23.59 on Dec 31st sound? Gives everyone chance to get some laps in over Chrtistmas hols :)

Oh yeah and suzuki swift sounds a good choice :)

Is this the '07 swift from the suzuki dealership?

If so I have done a 1:35.084 so far

Shaun

How may I ask did you do that? I've not done too many laps (about 30), but am still only around the 1.40-41's. Is your Swift a bit warmed up?

I did my time of 1:33.8 with a Suzuki Swift Sport 2007, 123 bhp and no modifications done on the car since buying it. The price for the car was 16300 Cr. Can it be a difference between versions of the game? I run the Pal version, I suspect Baddog dose the same.

Yeah that was about 4 laps in the car fresh from the dealership. 07 swift. Playing with a dualshock, manual gearbox, bonnet view and no tweaks or adjustments of any kind.

baddog how do you have your Dual Shock setup? I cannot find a setup in which I can comfortably run a manual gearbox. Hence I poke around in Auto.

I use the defaults entirely.. I find the triggers for gears very good.

took a while to get used to x for throttle (very old school that is!) but Im well used to it now.

Auto tends to be a real problem for times I think.. better to persist with the manual, when it comes right it feels so much more in control and is more fun to drive.

Im assuming you are using manual gears? I can imagine auto would absolutely kill you on this circuit

You'd be assuming wrong baddog :p

I still haven't switched to manual gears yet... started on F1 but was still learning the tracks again when this arrived. Done a couple of races with it but nothing serious...

Will try it again.

The moment you get manual gears working for you it will be ALL worth it trust me. The car just feels alive in comparison. Also you go 2+ seconds a lap quicker lol

I think I was a bit put off as the 'paddles' on the DFGT are just buttons and aren't great really, and then the sequential gearstick isn't the most solid of items and not being a real driver (yet) taking my hands off the wheel is still totally alien to me.

I'll have to grit my teeth and just learn how to do it, especially if it gives you that 2 seconds +!!

Will let you know how it goes baddog!!

You are supposed to drive the car exactly as it leaves the dealership I reckon. No mods at all, not even tyres

Well my assumption was it was practice mode, using the dealer bought 07 swift unmodified. Stock EVERYTHING.

Rules on settings however, should any be required, are a good topic for discussion here and now though yeah, I for one would like to get this off the ground.

If we need an actual online place you can all upload times I can provide the space and a simple leaderboard app if that isnt already covered?

We just need a trusty adjudicator for a new thread like in rc bets and games forums. We also need a way of veryfying laptimes. Screenshot enough or just good old honesty? :)

As for settings is it fair that people can choose any settings like stability, tc, gears etc? I prefer them all off, im sure some people prefer them on.

If it isn't honesty then tbh I for one am not spending time finding out how to get a saved replay to somewhere (I don't use online).

After about 15 attempts finally completed the camper van race without a dq I got the gold, the prize cash gave me just enough to get the stock 07 swift sport from the dealer. After 5 laps my best time is 1.34.119. All aids off except ABS set at 1. off track friction set to real.

A nice addition would be to have the option to do the lap from a standing start like they do on the show. Is it possible to do a 1 lap race or hotlap session to acheive this or is it always rolling start?

I did a go-kart 'One Make Race' on the TG track last night. That was a standing start...

For my time trials, I've tried to do all of them from a standing start too, just by parking my Swift as close to the line without triggering it as possible. My best time is a 1.35.3 atm, and that's from a rolling start.

I have all aids off now, except for ABS at 1 like yourself. I think people should be able to use aids if they feel they need them, but as I've found (mostly in the rally) TC isn't really something that makes you quicker.

The problem with the TC on GT5 is that it interferes far too much. If you have it set too strong you put your foot down and nothing happens.

The only sim iv witnessed a driving aid making people universally faster was in live for speed where for a time most wrs in rear drive cars were held by keyboard and mouse drivers such was the effectiveness of the counter steer aid. It could actually calculate the optimal steering angle for any given speed, weight dist at any time, all that was needed was the correct turn in point and the car equalised it self better than any driver could. It got dumbed down soon after! Rightly so but it was clever stuff.

Have become totally fed up with repeating repeating races to win XP and $. B-Spec Bob is also getting on my nerves and I'm lamenting the lack of "Torro Rosso style" fire the driver button!

Gonna buy me a Swift later so get ready for a sound thrashing!!! HaHaa HaHaHaaaa HAHAHAAAAA!!

Er... no you can't. It's not available. I've passed the campervan and the elise challenges but it's just not in the list.

I have a sneaking suspision that you need to get gold on the first event or complete the three events. Some around here will say it's open after the first but are forgetting they have spent an entire day getting gold on one event!!

That's right, it shows up on practice after getting gold on the first event with the VW bus. It took me like 10 attempts, but as a rule of thumb, if you cannot challenge for 6th at Gambon, then scrap the race and try again. Slipstream after Follow-through corner is key on both laps

You only need gold in the campervan event. You dont even need to do the other events.

Tips for that:

Auto off, its very very easy to keep in the right gear but you cannot rely on the auto.
Drive aggressively, you want to be 6-7 after the first few corners. Better to fail in a blaze of glory in this one than be left trying to catch up.
If one van is taking off way ahead of all the others, quit and restart, you need the front runners fighting among themselves if possible.
On that note, dont be hesitant to restart if you have a bad first half of lap one. Saves you heaps of wasted time.

Its really worth it and not all that hard.

Ok guys back down to business. 1m32.943. Anyone care to put a provisional leaderboard together? Im on smartphone in bed. Ps, I noticed that invalid laptimes (cuts etc) are shown in red text and valid ones green. We agree only green laps count?

Xig, Baddog and Kosmic,

Thanks for the advice and polite replies.

Darby, that's how you do it. Nobody said you were lying. "Pass" and "Gold" are different. Don't be anal, it does you no favours.

Mr Taylor,

Don't forget that two pages back you were asking everyone to wait for you, now you're in a rush?!
p.s If you're in bed, make your own bluddy leaderboard!! ;)

So. Gold it has to be eh? Will give it some more abuse..... er, I mean another try later.....

With a rolling start 1'30.613 on Comfort Soft tyres and from a standing start about 4 seconds slower.

I woukd have sworn that 1'30.613 was impossible. Ill check what tyres are on the car as standard, I suspect its comfort medium.

I also recommend using a rolling start. standing starts are too inconsistent with no proper timekeeper etc.

I may be wrong but dont arcade and Gt mode have differing physics? At least that was the case last time i played GT. Ive been using ptactice session in Gt mode.

I too have been using practice mode. I guess we need to take a vote on preferred mode. practice is likely I guess more like 'us'
