There is a new DVD covering the BSCC race at Crystal Palace in 1969 - Dice with Spice.

It features Gordon Spice and Steve Neal in Britax Coopers racing Chris Craft and John Fitzpatrick in Broadspeed Escort 1300GTs and John Handley and John Rhodes in the works Minis. There is also an inteview with Gordon Spice about the race and his early career.

The quality of the film is rather poor and its in black and white but I really enjoyed watching the 15 lap race, with Murray comentating. Recommended for fans of the period.

Available from www.minifilms.co.uk with whom I have no connection. Delivery was quick for me - ordered Friday at around 2 pm, delivered the next day.

Thanks that's good to know. I might check that out - I was there that day standing at North Tower. Presumably if the commentator is Murray Walker the source must be an original BBC broadcast unless the commentary has been dubbed on later. If it is a BBC recording it begs the question as to whether the beeb have some other race recordings hidden away in the archives that have yet to surface. I fear most will have been dumped but one can hope.

It is the BBC recording, and as you say it does give you hope that there might be more to come. It is film (as its scratched) rather than a "TV recording".

If you know the name of the show and the date it was broadcasted the BBC are quite good at finding archive footage and if you or a member of your family was broadcast in the show it's quite reasonably-priced to get a copy of it (£25 if I remember correctly).
If it's something that you want to market/reproduce then it can cost anything around £300 upwards per minute of film for the copyright - not cheap!!
