This is probably the most basic question there is, but here we go... your favourite type of racing? Note: I've only included the "main" categories, so if you prefer Drag or something like that, just click "other".

Sportscars for me. There's nothing better than long-distance, multi-class battles of prototype giants and GTs.

Very hard question to answer.

For the engineer in me: Single-seaters (mainly F1)
For the racing fan in me: Touring cars
For the spectacle-fan in me: Rallying

I can't give one answer, I'm afraid.

Single seaters for me, but I think it's because I'm not so long a motor-sports fan (~5 years), and F1 is the best (only?) broadcasted motor-sport in this motorsportfree country where I live.
With every year I'm interested in more and more things, I enjoyed the last Le Mans 24h, so Sportscars would be the second bet for me for now.
And I do have a problem with bikes, they don't interest me at all, dunno why.

Single seaters. F1, gp2 and indycar (hangs head in shame) are my favourite series. I do enjoy a little stock car and sports car racing though. Of the touring car series, I'd only be interested in the btcc.

Tough one.

I mainly watch F1. But I'll take 'single seaters' in a wider perspective.

And purely to 'watch', I'd to say motorbikes. Even 125cc races got me on the edge of my seat, while I don't care about any driver.

I'd say single seaters is my favourite. But I like all forms of motor sport.

Although the BTCC has gone down in my estimation this year as a "top line" form of racing. I don't think a championship with Rob Collard as one the main racers can hold a candle to to other championships.

I started off as a devout F1 fan. It's now got to the point where I'll watch it if there's no other racing on.

Bikes are my favourite form of racing. They've still got the atmosphere that F1 lost several years back.

Whatever Kimi is doing nowadays... Drag racing?
Drag racing on the eau rouge? Wouldn't work, Bernie...
Mostly Delta Wing racing these days.

I'm with the majority here, I'm a single seaters girl. I watch both F1 and Indycar, so both road courses and ovals are fine for me - in fact I generally prefer Indycars on the latter. I also try to follow some of the European feeder series, but its difficult with TV coverage to watch consistently.

I've tried to watch Moto GP on TV several times and while I think it should theoretically appeal to me, it just doesn't get my heart pumping. I don't know why, but I'm just not a bikes person. I once watched a Speedway Grand Prix event online, and I didn't really get that either.

Stock cars just don't appeal to me. I think a lot of its because I'm not keen on the cars themselves, and I'm not really into motorsports which are also contact sports. I haven't really enjoyed what NASCAR races I've seen. I've also been learning about British Stock Car racing on the BBC series Gears and Tears. And while the programme itself has improved, the racing still doesn't appeal to me.

I very much admire the skill involved in rally, but I think because its essentially time trialling (I know thats a bit over simplistic) as opposed to wheel to wheel racing, I find it hard to get excited about.

Touring cars - well the only touring cars I've had access to is BTCC on ITV, and I haven't been keen on it. I'd like to try watching some DTM and WTCC before I pass final judgement on it though.

Sportscars - this is an area I have to admit I'm largely ignorant about. I've watched bits of Le Mans online the past couple of years and enjoyed it, but thats it. Again, I would like to watch some more of something like GT1 sometime.

Overall, the most important thing for me is trying to watch lots of different types of motorsport with an open mind, and decide what I like and don't like from that. I only started watching Indycar earlier this year, and got into it very quickly - which perhaps shows I really am a single seaters person, as that hasn't really happened with any other form of motorsport that I've watched.

Again, generally F1 for me, i tend to catch as much single seater as I can. Thats generally F2/3 as I can watch that on the computer easily. Motorbikes and ovals don't really do anything for me, and I've never had the chance to see much sports car racing, which is unfortunate as I have found i interesting. BTCC is something I do enjoy as well.

Single seaters for me, Indycars starting in the early 70s and F1 in '78.

I think I would like sports cars more if they did a better job broadcasting it. I never have a clue what's going on.

Single seaters or more precisely F1 is the only motorsport worth its salt.

We may whine about "no overtaking" , Bernie stuffing his pockets and Corp style teams - but at the end of the day the truth is we will get up at 3AM to watch a race/ Same cant be said about other series at all. For me anyway.

I do get all broadcasts we can get in the UK and have tried watching all forms and barely could find any interest even though there was plenty of "so called" action.
Nascar cars overtaking look so damn easy and not really an overtake at all much like the lead driver lifting off a bit
MotoGP Bikes flying off after a crash look more like Worlds most Amazing Videos.
And Rallying is not at all fun to watch at least on TV. ( especially the crowd please r stages are awful ) Althou I will still go to watch a Rally just because of a slight hope of catching a glimpse of Kimi.

Although more action in F1 is always welcome, the main reason for F1 being F1 is the drama it brings. The title fights and multiple inter team battles all rolled into one.
F1 has something for everyone, the technophile, driver followers, team fanatics, etc etc..

Because F1 is the biggest stage , the whole season is akin to a Blockbuster with an unknown and highly anticipated climax. Personally I would like a race every week but the breaks in between the races actually keep the interest levels high. Although same can not be said about the early naughties where F1 did lose its charm.

While I may be disagreed with widely, I don't think Bernie has done a bad job at all! He has kept F1 the "most exclusive" status alive.

Same for me.

I've always been a single seaters fan (F1, Indycar/CART) but today's cars are just terrible. They lack those notions of speed, danger, beauty and madness bikes still have. That makes me think I should try to follow British Superbikes and Irish road racing more closely.
Still, I almost always watch F1 live on tv, and Indycar live on streaming, because I have to download races from all others series I follow. And I also never miss Sebring, Le Mans and Bathurst.

Bikes >>>>> single seaters > rallying > everything else

MotoGP's the only thing I make an almost religious effort to watch each and every time, but in theory, as long as it's on telly and I'm conveniently bored with nothing better to do, I'll watch almost anything.

I thought F1 was my #1 until I willfully lost live coverage back in 2007 and realised I didn't feel like I was actually missing out on anything.

Sounds like all good championships :) Besides exciting racing and fabulous cars, I believe most of the major sports car series still have things F1 lost years ago: Multiple car manufacturers (and major factory involvement), multiple engine manufacturers, multiple tyre manufacturers. And in case of GTs, you have the direct - only slightly modified - product for your customers right there on the race track.

Anyways. Since this is mainly a F1-forum (face it), I'm not that surprised of the result. Perhaps I would've thought touring cars had got more votes, since I know there are lot's of british BTCC - and perhaps V8 Supercars - fans around.

Single seaters, well f1, dont like indy cars as i hate oval racing. Im luke warm on rallying, there doesnt seem to be too many great
rally drivers annymore :( same with btcc, fifteen-twenty years ago it was packed with great drivers and was an awesome series.
Moto gp is alright but somehow doesnt have the magic f1 does :smoking:

Even though I'm a pretty big F1 fan (never miss a race weekend), my main interest lies with sportscar racing, particularly prototypes. My engineering head loves the technical innovation, the variety and the more open-ended rules, and my heart loves the spectacle, the drama and sheer determination exhibited in almost every Le Mans 24hr. For a racing series with a history at least as rich as Formula 1, it deserves more recognition than it gets IMO.

In truth, I watch pretty much anything, with interest going in ebbs and flows. I've been watching heaps of NASCAR in the last couple years due to Ambrose's involvement, which kind of escalated into a general interest in all the drivers. MotoGP is generally pretty interesting most years (this year's a bit down with Lorenzo dominating a bit too much), and as an Aussie I make sure I watch V8 Supercars as much as I can. I'm yet to get into Indycar yet though, I often don't have enough time in a weekend to watch everything!

So... in a nutshell, bit of everything with sportscars out front and single seaters second.

Single seaters, then the bikes.

My earliest introduction to motor racing was via NASCAR, but once I watched a few F1 races my interest in the tin tops faded away. While I'll watch the domestic stuff like Indycar if it's on television and I'm bored, I don't care as much for the ovals and, really, that's the prime draw for that series.

I like what I've seen of rally but it's neither available to attend much nor regularly televised where I live, making it a chore to get into.

No. Racing involves first past the line, all on track at once. Rallying is fastest over stages. Qualyfying isn't racing for example, and nor is rallying.

Voted for single seaters (not only because of F1). They keep me on the edge of my seat, even if there is no overtaking. Also, I enjoy the engineering part of the business, very much.

After that go sports cars (I love Le Mans 24h) and rallying. Although watching rally on TV is not the easiest thing in the world.

I don't know why but motorbikes are boring as hell for me :|

Quite interesting question, thanks for the poll!

It will be fascinating to see how the electorate spreads...

Voted for single seaters. Next for me is sports cars (Le Mans!), stock cars, motorbikes, rallye, touring cars. Touring cars is really the most boring and static form of racing. While it is true that strictly rallying is not racing, it has some great components. I miss the wheel to wheel battle though. Thanks to OfficeLineBacker and his threads I recently warmed to stock cars, which I never understood before.

But single seaters and sports cars rule supreme.

Single seaters followed very closely by motorbikes.

I'm just in love with the notion of a single-seater, open cockpit, open wheeled machine with 700+hp getting around these great international race courses almost as fast as our human bodies will take.

But really, the best racing belongs to bikes. Its just soooo good. Track position isn't nearly as important as in single-seaters, which means that if you're quick, you can move up to the front, almost assuredly. A recent AMA Daytona Sportbike race had a photo finish where two riders crossed the line at the EXACT same time. 0.000 difference. A single pixel on the replay screen determined the winner after careful analysis. And while its unusual to have it this close, its not unusual to see bike races with 2 riders(or more) finish within hundredths of a second from each other. Its just exciting stuff.

No, racing is first to take the chequered flag. It matters not who is fastest. In a race, you can take fastest lap but still come last. In a rally, it is about the fastest.

Qualifying, for example, is not a race. It is all about who takes the fastest time. This is not a race.

I love F1. I miss A1GP. Will watch GP2, Indycar, or Super Formula if nothing else is on. Can't be bothered with the lower formulae.

Love GT1. Love 24 Hours of Le Mans, Spa, and the Nurburging but I don't care for the ALMS.

Love MotoGP, Moto2, and the 125cc class. Not inclined to watch the Superbikes.

Wish that WRC is shown over here so I can follow it better. I find the IRC a little boring but I'll still watch it.

Love the Dakar rally. I wish there are more televised endurance rallies like that.

Can anyone tell me what's the appeal of touring cars? Why prefer touring cars over sports cars? The touring cars are boring (aside from those in the DTM) and I find the action too slow for my taste.

Single seaters for me- F1 mostly, along with Indy and to an extent and GP2/F2 when I find it! I quite like bike racing too, though not as much they can be extremely exciting! From the MotoGP, though, Lorenzo does my nut. He's a total arse.

My other main motorsport love is Le Mans and its series. I don't know why but I find it totally gripping. I guess it's like the Cricket Test Match of motor racing but it really does it for me for some reason. The LMP cars are fantastic too.

Touring cars do nothing for me at all though. I would love to enjoy rally but to my knowledge the only TV coverage is highlights on Dave. If I'm going to watch some racing I want to watch it live and in full! Can't stand the highlights only rubbish.

Voted Single Seaters on balance.

Ah right, I think what I've been watching is British Superbikes, I don't know how different that is.

I live in France too, not much motorsport around on the main channels apart from F1 and we don't have a Noos box anymore, so no Eurosport either. So I have to rely on the British main channels for racing stuff.

Hmmm. F1 too technical and expensive. Unless you have the best car the driver is a spectator.

Indy cars were good, have seen little of them in recent times. Better on road circuits generally though I have seen some very good oval races. reportedly not so good these days.

Sports Cars can be interesting though the elite level with diesel engines is a bit ho hum. Diesels belong in the transporter!

Tintops are usually so contrived and choreographed these days, particularly Nascar and Supercars.

Bikes are usually spectacular and the racing is close. But they are mad! And i am not really interested in bikes.

Drag Racing can be spectacular, though often is dissapointing. But a good fast side by side run can be magic, in any half decent class. And a lot animal on equipment for my genteel tastes!. Good on TV where you dont have to watch them mop up oildowns!

Rallying can be spectacular but is so dangerous for both competitor and spectators.

Offroad Racing. As above.

Speedway has lost some appeal to me in recent years. Sprinters can be great but watching 20 resarts for 20 laps makes me walk off. Good sedan [all categories] racing is always good entertainment. Midgets can be awe inspiring or worse than Sprinters. Solos can be great, but can be dead boring too. Outfits can be magic though the best I have seen recently of them has been club shows, big meets have been very average.Dont really know why.

Anything else can be of interest though is not really me.

Touring cars AT ITS BEST is probably my favourite racing. However touring cars (that I can watch) has not been at it's best for a number of years...

F1, however, is the most fascinating battle. Everyone is operating on the highest level, so the tiniest errors have big implications, and there is a continuous soap opera behind the scenes. Sometimes you even see an overtaking maneouvre...

My favourite changes; 15 years ago it was probably F1, followed by Rally(ing), BTCC, bikes then Sportscars.
Now, I’m not sure I have one – too close between Rallying, Sportscars and bikes (road and off road/Enduro). I still watch F1, but it has lost the plot, and the BTCC is a shadow of it’s former self, and DTM/Aussie V8’s are Touring cars!
