I`m needing any infomation & photos from the road bikes 175cc, 200cc & 350cc. Also ANYTHING about the race bikes in the 125cc classes & the 350cc bikes made into race bikes, including the AGV-CONDOR that Henk Van KESSEL made & raced in the 70`s/80`s from holland. as did Jos Schurgers with his beautiful made 125cc Bridgestone. from 1973. email:dcian@fastemail.us

There is a Bridgestone group on Yahoo that you may be able to search for related articles about racing Bridgestones. Don Vesco raced various Bridgestones, some at Bonneville and a 350 at Daytona (I believe). You can search an article by Gordon Jennings about tuning a 350 for racing. Scott's Bridgestone Page has links to factory hop-up manual for 100, 175 and 350 machines. Classic Racer did an article about Jos Schurgers Bridgestone around 2004? I'm currently racing a Bridgestone SR175 converted to road race. In fact I'm hopping on a plane to Birmingham AL for the Barber Motorsports Vintage Festival tomorrow for the last round of AHRMA vintage series.

If you Google the words "Altair racer" (with the inverted commas) you will get to a page in Mick Walker's book of Japanese Racing Motorcycles that deals with Bridgestones. I remember the "Altair" which is referred to. It was ridden by welsh rider Vince Chivers back in the day (also Malcolm Uphill a few times) but if I remember correctly, it proved to be somewhat unreliable.

BARRY your memory regarding the ALTAIR and VINCE CHIVERS is correct. PAUL REYNOLDS of KICKSTART MOTOR CYCLES also rode the bike at llandow but, i thought it had the 250 c.c. suzuki RAM engine?. this of course is some time ago and i could be wrong. i think there was another firm from ST HELENS SWANSEA who had some connection as ALTAIR who were involved with trials/motor cross/endurance?

Hi Keith
Interesting that Reynolds also had a pop on the Altair! I'm sure it was 350 Bridgestone-based, unless they tried different engines. I think the plan was to market the Altair (Jim Lee made the frames) but it didn't take off. When I next dust down my old Llandow programmes I'll check! I've still got them - going right back to the first ever meeting in 1965 (Barry Motor Club) and various Cardiff Eagles, Bantam Club, Midland Club and Port Talbot MCRC meetings from the sixties and seventies. Reynolds did some amazing things on his 125 Bultaco didn't he! Next time I see Peter Heenan I'll ask him about the Swansea "Altair" (it rings a bell) but I'm not sure there was any connection.

Barry.
